Point of No Return
"I'm engaged. I just thought you should know."
He pauses for a moment, more stunned than he would ever care to admit, as he tries to come up with an adequate response. When one doesn't immediately surface he looks at her with an expression that is a mixture of curiosity and astonishment.
"What is there to say about that really?"
She just shrugs and turns away from him not willing to look into his eyes, or to try to come up with an equally useless response. He doesn't seem particularly surprised by her unresponsiveness and simply gazes out the window trying to comprehend why she told him at all.
"Well then, I guess everyone who had bets on us eventually getting it on is going to lose a lot of money. But that's not to say that the cracks about your glorious ass will stop."
She turns at this and he can see the tears in her eyes that seem like they are about to fall. He's never really been one for comfort though, so he simply smirks at her and tries to rid himself of the image of her in a white dress kissing another man.
"Don't expect me at the unholy union, I don't do suits."
She watches him as he limps out of her office and tries not to cry as the door closes behind him.
