Emily placed her fingertips on the glass, feeling the cold that leant against the other side as the rain poured down on the city's streets. It wasn't quite past four, yet the street lights were on, guiding the people who had dared to venture out home to their loved ones.
She herself was awaiting someone; someone gorgeous and blonde who had gone in hunt of Emily's favourite chocolate so they could snuggle down in front of the telly together and enjoy the terrible weather properly
Her mobile rang, she hoped they hadn't run out of rocky road at the local store; nope, it was Katie on the other end.
"Hi Emsy, what's new with my gorgeous sister?"
"Katie, a pleasure as always, isn't this weather horrid? How are you?"
"Yeah swell and all that hey Ems" She laughs.
That gave Emily a pause. "Katie… are you drunk?"
"Christ Em of course not, Jay always makes me laugh at the strangest times, you know that. Although not a bad suggestion, thanks for that Emilio"
Emily sniggered to herself, listening to JJ in the background muttering that Katie was the ridiculous one in their relationship, he however, was perfectly normal, and why didn't Katie take the call into the other room if he was such a horrible distraction; Katie meanwhile simply giggled on and Emily could tell they were right on the edge of falling into snuggle territory, regardless of her sitting here on the other end of the line.
"Katie! Focus. I am on the phone to you"
More giggles. Great, this'll be great fun, Emily thought though she had to admit that hearing her sister laugh really warmed her heart.
"Anyway, we need to meet up very soon Emsy, I have amazing news to tell you!"
"Tell me now, I'm right here"
"No, I need to see your face when I tell you"
Just then the door opened and Emily turned to see Naomi coming through the door, laden with gifts and trying to shake the rain out of her hair.
"Christ! Its fucking freezing out the Ems" A kiss to the cheek and then she was on her way to the kitchen, cursing all the way.
"Is that Naomi? Tell her we said hello. She needs to come too. Really Emily, when are you free?"
"Katie it's fine, how about tomorrow? Come over and I'll cook lunch for the four of us?"
"The four of us? Who said I was letting Jay out of the house?" More laughter; Emily was fairly certain that Jay had just embarked on a tickle war with her twin, however her love was home now, she had better things to do than try to referee a tickle fight she couldn't even see.
"Katie! I'm going now!"
"Emily!" JJ was on the phone now. "Look forward to seeing you tomorrow, Katie's just locked herself in the bedroom; I knew I would win this round"
"Right Jay, See you at 12 then" Emily laughed, hanging up the phone and making her way through to the lounge room, preparing to cocoon herself into the many, many blankets that lived there and not move for a very long time.
Slipping in and wrapping herself around Naomi, they shared a long, lingering kiss; the first of many for the night. Naomi grinned at her and brought out the chocolate.
"So how is Katie? They seem to make a lot of noise on the telephone. Not sure they realise how it works."
Emily laughed at that and snuggled in closer.
"Actually she's as happy as I am" she said, looking affectionately at the girl she loved and settling into to Rocky Road and yet another generic crime TV show. She really couldn't be happier
