A/N: This came to me randomly while I was reading some Hamilton fanfiction, and I just had to write it. One-shot. Disclaimer: I do not own Hamilton, that belongs to the fabulous Lin-Manuel Miranda. Enjoy! R&R!
"Alex! Alex! I just had a genius idea!"
Alexander Hamilton looked up from his laptop, the sound of the keyboard keys fading from memory, to find one of his best friends, John Laurens, run up to his spot in the library of their school, Independence High School, his curly brown hair bouncing in its ponytail. "What is it John? I need to finish this opinion essay for History. I'm only up to 35 pages and I started two hours ago! I'm slacking off enough as it is!"
John caught his breath and smiled. Alex had a tendency to write like he was running out of time, when in reality, it was 4:00 in the afternoon. "You know that collaborative project between the AP History and the Visual Art class?"
"No," Alex shook his head. "You know I never pay attention in History." Alex would prefer to write about politics than listen to Mr. Adams drone on about history. "What's the project?
"It's a comic. We're supposed to team up, one student from each class, and write and draw a comic about something that happened in American history. Since you can write a 35-page essay in two hours, I was thinking you and me could partner up." John smiled. "Please?"
"Okay, what's your idea?" Alex was more about writing his opinions on everything than writing stories, but for John, he would try.
"I was thinking about doing the American Revolution, but instead of people, I would draw turtles!"
Alex sighed. John had a strange love, almost obsession for turtles. He aced his Biology class, he always drew turtles on everything, and he owned an awful lot of turtle themed items, including the t-shirt he was wearing. And the one he wore the day before. And the day before that, and so on… Like he bought the whole turtle section of t-shirts online.
"Okay, John, I'll do it with you. It's not like anyone else has asked me." Alex agreed.
"Awesome! Let's start right now! No, at my place! C'mon!" John said excitedly as he ran down the hall towards the exit.
Alex packed up his laptop and his books into his backpack as he laughed to himself. John was always one to take action whenever an idea struck him. That's one of the reasons they were such great friends. They both had that same instinct.
Two hours later(much longer than either John or Alex expected), a few dozen pages of comics were stacked together and stapled. They depicted the American Revolution, no the TURTLE REVOLUTION, in a sea of red, blue, and green. Naturally, with John's turtle drawing skills and Alex's incredible way with words, they got an A+ on the assignment. The Turtle Revolution then ended up in the hands of the faculty editor of the school paper, Mr. Washington, and he published it with little haste.
And, of course, they turned it in a week earlier than expected.
