Career Day, a bleach fanfic

The zooming white projectile almost hit the back of his head, preoccupied as he was.

The edges of the white lab coat flared as the man snapped around, snagging the object out of midair before it could hurt his prized head of hair. At his age, it never hurt to take precautions after all.

"Hah!" The good doctor scoffed in derision. "You thought you could get me with this little thing?"

Isshin waved…err, thrust the crumpled piece of paper in his son's direction triumphantly, a superior eyebrow raised, only to catch the teenager's last stride out of the room and the grumpily muttered, "You'd better be there, old man."

Eyebrow still raised, this time in curiosity, the "old man" looked down at the pitiful thing clutched in one hand, the other hand coming up to scratch the back of his neck. After a few seconds, the scratching stopped as a thought hit and just as quickly went out through his mouth in a dramatic gasp. "My dear Masaki…Is this what we've been waiting for all these long years? Has our son finally become a man and is getting married?"

Swoosh! This time, the speeding shoe conked Isshin right on the forehead, knocking his head up and forcing him to take a step back. The size 9s bounced off to land, clattering and spinning, on the floor mopped earlier by Yuzu.

"W-What the hell are you talkin' about, you lying old fart?" Narrowed brown eyes shot fire while a finger jabbed accusingly, cheeks flushed high with color. "That's not a w-wedding invitation! Ruki…I haven't ye…I-I'm still too young for that! Argh! It's the appointment letter for Career Day at school! And you're required to be there even if you're a fool of a father!"

Twirling around and practically glowing red, Ichigo growled and slammed the door shut, leavingIsshin alone, again. Immediately, even though he was the sole occupant, the good doctor struck a fatherly pose and yelled "Don't worry about a thing, Ichigo! I'll be there for you!"

And thenhe proceeded to crumple onto the patient bed handily nearby, a lump forming near his temple where the shoe had hit, letter still in hand.

March 05, XXXX – Karakura Town

Yesterday, Kurosaki Isshin (XX), doctor and owner of the Kurosaki Clinic, with his son, Kurosaki Ichigo (18), entered the local high school before an explosion occured there.

Everyone inside the school at the time of the devastation has been reported safe, including the two mentioned above. Thanks to the brave efforts of the father and son team, there for Career Day, only a few suffered minor injuries, including Kurosaki Ichigo's homeroom teacher, Sasaki Masaharu (39).

Though the two heroes declined to comment, awitness relayed to us the glowing words Kurosaki-san said of his son during their Career Day interview. "Oh, don't worry! My son will take over for me, marry a beauty like I did (her name is Rukia by the way, and she's such a nice young woman!), and save the world. Oh wait, he already…well, let's just say he's got lots of career skills that I taught him!"

Author Notes:On LiveJournal, the community called Kurosaki Clinic has a yearly event in honor of Ichigo's birthday (July 15). Community members post up challenge topics and then must also complete a challenge within those submitted. Of course, I entered into the event this year, though I tried to talk myself out of it. Anyways, this was the result. I hope you like it. :)
