Worth
"Oh, and this one time, I gave Artey some distilled gabri juice. You know, the kind you can get at the Farmer's market. Well, he just drank that whole bottle and wouldn't you know it...Artey threw that up quicker than he drank it."
"You don't say," she replied absently.
"Yes. Has yours done anything like that yet?"
"No. I haven't given him any solid food yet. Mainly it's been azure milk and protein capsules."
"Ugh, I don't know how you can give any baby those capsules. They seem so bland."
"He hasn't complained."
"He must have a calm disposition. He must take after your side of the family. I've watched you with him when I can and I see you have a lot of patience with him."
"And here I thought I was doing things too fast. Actually, I don't know which side of the family he takes after yet. We'll just have to discover that for ourselves."
Nadea went on again. "Artey takes after his father. Sometimes I see him look at me with his father's scowl. It's eerie. Once time, Artey was playing with his toy X-Wing and he all at once just decided he didn't want to play with it and he threw it across the floor. You can just see the personality in him already. Just like his father. Do you see any of the same resemblance in him like your husband?"
"I..I can see a lot of his father in him."
"Oh, hold on a minute. Artey's acting up. Just a moment while I pick him up. There, there, Artey. That's it. Everything's all right. Ugh, I am so tired of people coming up to him and saying, 'goochee goochee goo' all the time. I bet you're tired of hearing that, huh, Artey? Yes. Hey, have you gotten his shots? They're due usually after the first year."
"Yes. I plan on doing that next week. I have an appointment already."
"Well, I got Artey's done a month ago. No sense in waiting, I say. Yes, Artey got a wittle shot, didn't he? It hurt his bum but I kissed it and made it all better."
"That's real nice, Nadea."
"Yes. Oops, we got a wittle accident down there, don't we? Did we do a doo doo? Well, I have to go, dear. Nice talking to you."
She hung up her end of the comlink after Nadea did and she could finally breath.
Her husband was just coming up from his workbench and noticed her with the comlink at her side. "You're just hanging up now? You've been on that comlink since I went down. That was an hour ago. Nadea talk your ear off?"
"She finally shut up. Artey had a wittle doo doo. Promise me if I ever start talking in baby-speak, please shoot me."
"Hon, that's just a part of motherhood."
"It's not going to be my way, for sure. By the way, we have to make an appointment to get his shots."
"Ugh, more credits. We probably won't be able to afford it until after this next harvest coming up."
"I know."
"Speaking of which, that call was on Nadea's dime, right?"
"Oh, yes. She called me. Even if it was only to gloat. Amazing that she never called this many times before we got him."
"That's just her competitive nature, honey. You're doing fine for only being a mother for eight months."
"I don't know if I'm worth being called a mother yet."
He came over to her with their new addition looking on in wonderment. He put her arms around her and softly said, "Oh, Beru, you've already shown your worth to be a great mother."
"I'm just afraid Luke will only see me as an Aunt."
They both looked down at the new infant that came into their lives recently. He was ogling them with his little blue eyes looking content at where he was.
"Look at that, Beru. He's got Adventurer written all over him. I'm sure he will see more in you than just an Aunt."
"Thanks, Owen."
