"You may eat, traitors."
It was a declaration just like any other, but its meaning had been taken wildly out of context. A lone space marine, just as insignificant and expendable as the rest, had been graciously allowed to eat by the mercy of his captor.
One man, however, had been inspired by those four words. They had sent him on a journey, taking him across land and sea. To the space marine at whom the words had been directed, it was but an idle command. To Asgaran, enigmatic wanderer extraordinaire, it was a declaration filled with life-altering implications. It sent him on an adventure unlike any before it.
A quest to eat traitors.
He had travelled across the land, searching far and wide. Every man had an allegiance, but few of them were permanent. Everyone had a price; when a more lucrative offer presented itself, many would abandon their masters, sometimes leaving death and destruction in their wake.
They would not get far. Asgaran was there to devour them before their new home became more than a pipe dream. The immortal words echoed throughout his being, mingling with the crunch of bone and muscle.
He was the traitor-eater.
"I will eat traitors," he declared fiercely after yet another victorious hunt. Every kill brought with it a feeling of reinvigoration, and soon Asgaran found himself addicted to the hunting, the killing, the devouring of traitors.
Every so often, there would be some who went against the Emperor. They met their demise at the hands and teeth of the Traitor-Eater, and Asgaran enjoyed hunting them more than any other, for they were dangerous and feared by many.
Occasionally, however, Asgaran tired of his life.
He would sometimes retreat to a bar on some distant planet, away from the call of the traitors. He would drink, but not too much. Intoxication brought hunger to him, which urged him into the pursuit of more traitors.
Each day was the same. He sat. He drank. He left. He slept. He awoke, and then he repeated.
But that changed one day.
He was sitting, he was drinking, and he was soon to be leaving. There was a crash behind him, and Asgaran turned in alarm.
Then a Space Marine, and Chaos Marine and an Eldar walked into the bar, which led to...
