Red. All he could see was red.

With a shaky hand, he reached out and touched it.

God, it is so soft.

It was hard to breathe, as if something was pressing down on his chest. He closed his eyes and attempted to steady himself, willing his heart to stop racing. However, he could do nothing for the sweat that soaked the fabric underneath him, or the droplets that cascaded down his forehead and into his eyes.

So much red...

His body's trembling began to ease into sporadic jerks. Taking a deep breath he felt a welcoming warmth fill his bones, and halt the shakes completely. A small smirk pulled at his lips, despite the throbbing in his throat or the spasms in his muscles. Rolling onto his side, he blinked his eyes open slowly and finally smiled fully.

"I love you," he whispered, threading his hand into the hair of his wife once more. Tugging her closer for a tender kiss, he inhaled deeply and melted his body against hers. "I love you, Shannon."
