Not Quite a Schnee

I never thought I'd see the day I could call myself a Schnee. If my father saw me now... Well, he'd probably kill me. Abandonment of the White Fang was intolerable, even- no, especially if committed by his own daughter. Adding insult to injury, I was now technically part of the Schnee family, the family most Faunus had never uttered the name of without spitting on the ground in front of them. Yet here I was, a cat Faunus, living alongside them. After 4 months, I still couldn't believe it. Blake Schnee. The wrongness of those two words together was astounding. As I thought, I lay in my bed, listening to the clinks and the conversation going on downstairs. I wished Ruby would hurry up and escape from the party downstairs, although even Weiss' company would be welcome. I had already read all the books in my room, and I could only go downstairs to get more once the party was over. I was getting bored. Not for the first time, I cursed the cat ears that had so soundly messed up my life. If only I wasn't a Faunus, I could put on a dress, like the beautiful black one I had worn for my 13th birthday. I could join my adoptive sisters downstairs during parties, I could eat anything I wanted to with the family rather than whatever scraps Ruby was able to sneak up here so I wouldn't have to eat cat food. Cat food! What did Mr. Schnee think I was? A house cat? Actually, I thought, calming down a bit, that's exactly what he thinks you are. Which was a good thing. If he ever found out what I really was, what my real last name was... Well, the Schnee Dust Co. And the White Fang would have a common enemy for once. Me.

I had left the white fang nearly four months ago when I had realized how sick we had become. Raiding stores, rioting, killing people. I couldn't take it. So I left. My father did not take kindly to people who left. Especially not his own daughter. I had nearly escaped unhurt, but no, my father just had to be right there. We had fought. He had been my mentor, so everything I knew he had taught me. I escaped, but I was gravely injured. Luckily, my savior Ruby Rose Schnee, has found me curled in a dark alleyway, a large gash in my side that had gotten infected in the days since I received it. She helped me heal, using her aura, but I still needed medical attention. I was half dead, but somehow Ruby was able to lift me. She took me to her older sister first, knowing she's never win against her parents without backup. That's when I passed out from lack of blood, Ruby's lifting me up having re-opened the only half-sealed wound. When I woke up, I was in the Schnee hospital. I'm told I freaked out, but I don't remember that. Once I calmed down, I learned that I had been adopted. By the enemy. I hated Ruby and Weiss for a while, but once I got over it, they began to treat me like a sister. Of course, technically I was still Ruby's pet, despite it being illegal to have Faunus as pets, but to them I was a sister. To me, they were saviors. I would have died without them, and I had grown to love them.
I was snapped out of my thoughts as the center of my attention herself came out of the closet. Ever since I had learned that my room was connected to both Weiss' and Ruby's bedrooms, I had moved my precious Gambol Shroud, my Variant-Ballistic-Chain-Scythe, if you want to be specific, under my mattress.
"Hey Blake! I got you some food! Real food!" I sat up on my bed and Ruby came over and sat next to me, handing me the usual can of tuna plus some fancy bread and cheese, and a glass of water. "Weiss had to distract them while I got you some food. She says she wishes she could come see you. It must be boring up here." She had no idea.
"Hey Ruby, would you mind grabbing me some new books? I've read all these ones. I could replace them after the party, once I'm allowed downstairs, but that's in a few hours."
"You could always take a catnap."
"Racist." She grinned. I wasn't really offended, I knew she didn't mean it. It was sort of a joke between us, she really just did it to annoy me. I laid back on the bed, and took the can and bread and water from Ruby, setting them on the bedside table. Luckily the can had a pull tab, so I could open it easily. Ruby nodded and went back into her room. I heard her open her door and go downstairs, then I lost track of her among the rest of the partygoers. She couldn't just leave through my door in case there was anyone snooping around upstairs. If anyone discovered a Faunus in the Schnee household Mr. Schnee would be ridiculed, and like I said before, it's technically illegal to have a Faunus pet. But Ruby was literally the most stubborn person I had ever met, and since Mr. Schnee was one of those rich humans who believed himself above the law, Ruby got what she wanted. I finished off the tuna and was halfway through the bread and cheese when Ruby retuned with a stack of books so high I wondered how she hadn't run into anything.
"Here, Blake. These should keep you occupied. I had to use my semblance to get them past the library guard, but here you go." I smiled at her in thanks, until she went and did it again.
"You want me to get you some milk?"
I immediately scowled at her, muttering
"If you hadn't saved my life I would kill you." She giggled.
"Go ahead and try! I've been training with Crescent here!" She pulled out her scythe, nearly shearing off the end of my bed. "Soon I won't even need any bodyguards at all!" She said, naming her two bodyguards. I threw my signature eye roll at her.
"Yeah, right. Your father's so protective of you, you could beat an entire pack of Beowolves by yourself and he still wouldn't let you go around without at least two trained guards. Dusts, you could beat Adam and he wouldn't let you out on your own. Of course if you beat Adam, you'd have the entire White Fang after you-" she looked confused as she interrupted me. "Wait, Blake,"
"Yes?"
"Who's Adam?" I realized what I had let slip. No one knew the name of the leader of the White Fang, not even his top associates. Only two people knew. Himself. And his daughter. Most people called their father Dad, or Father, but to me he was always Adam. Adam Taurus. Of course, when people asked me my last name, I couldn't say it was Taurus, since Adam was hiding his name. So I'd used my mother's surname. I'd always thought 'Blake Belladonna' had a nice ring to it.
"Blaaake," Ruby said, waving her hand in front of my face, pulling me out of my thoughts. "I said, Who's Adam? What does he have to do with the white fang?" Well, I was screwed. I looked into her face, panicking. So I did what I always did when panicked. I ran. I grabbed Gambol, which surprised Ruby, who had no idea I had a weapon. I had snuck out and retrieved it the night after I got here from the hospital. I used that same route now, leaping out the window and descending using the window ledges. I was careful only to use windows that were dark, so as not to get caught.
"Blake, wait!" Ruby called my name, but I didn't respond. I reached the bottom and landed in a crouch, then took off towards the mansion's back garden. Pulling the ribbon off my wrist, I tied it over my head to conceal my ears. I ran through the garden, then stopped at a large statue. It portrayed two humans, standing atop a cliff, swords held high. Beneath them was a grim, a Beowolf to be exact. I stared for a second, feeling like that Beowolf. I was a monster. I had killed innocent people, people who were no different than myself except for one tiny detail. All to prove that that one detail didn't matter. But the only thing the violence did was set us apart from the humans. Suddenly I heard a voice. I turned around to see a vaguely familiar looking boy. It took me a second, but I figured it out. I had seen him on the news a couple times. Apparently he was a bit of a thief.
"Why'd you put on the bow?" He said, waving his monkey tail around. Wait, he had a tail. He was a Faunus too. That still didn't mean I trusted him. Completely.
"What do you mean?"
"Your bow. I was watching you from that tree over there, and I saw you put it on. Look, see? It's twitching now. You're a Faunus too, aren't you?"
"Wait," I said, suspicious. "Why is a monkey faunus thief watching the Schnee mansion?" He shrugged. "Like you said. I'm a thief. The people in there are rich. Where there's rich people, there will be thieves. Besides, I was looking for a challenge. And what's more challenging than here? By the way, kitty, I didn't catch your name. I'm Sun Wukong, as you may know, if you watch the news. I'm a local celebrity. I'm pretty famous, if you ask me."
I rolled my eyes. "Heightened opinion of yourself, huh? And infamous is more like it. My name is Blake. Blake Bel-" I caught myself just in time. "Blake Schnee."
