This is the Rain

By Sam King

"It's, it's going to rain today."

"Yes,"

"Hawkeye, Lutient Hawkeye," said Major Sargent Fury, Riza Hawkeye the military's best sharp shooter looked up at him, the drosyness in her eyes betrayed her lack of sleep.

"Yes Major Sargent Fury," she said,

"The Brigader Genral wishes to speak with you." Riza nodded and stood up to see her commanding officer Brigader Genral Mustang.

"Lutient, I wish for you to look after the men for a while. I'm going out around the city." said Roy Mustang,

"Yes sir," she said, understanding Roy's wish to walk around Central. He was going to the cemtary to visit an old friend.

"I'm going to become the Fuer, Maes, I'll transform how this whole country works. It's the only way I can justify taking my next breath."

"To do that you're going to need someone who understands you and the system and support you from the inside. I'll work under you, stay close to the higher ups and help push you to the top."

How long had it been since he had that confersation with Hughes? Twelve years? Had it really been that long? Elyssia was eight now, it made sense.

Roy just stood there looking at the white gravestone that his best friend was now under. Hughes had watched his back through the Ishvalan Rebellion. Wasn't it suppose to be that if you surrvived Isval you could survive anything? I guess no one had predicted homonculai.

"Roy," whispered Riza, "You've been out here all afternoon,"

He turned to face her, she had a boquet of white lilies. "Has it really been this long, Riza, since the rebellion, since he died, since they left? I was twenty when I came up with becoming the Fuer."

"You're nearly there too, sir."

"It's all my fault,"

"Got my girlfriend to bake you an apple pie, you want it? Roy,"

"It's called a taboo, forbiden alchemy, it's kinda fun."

"I don't understand much about alchemy, but I'm no fool and I certainly know what happens to anyone who commits a taboo."

"You can relax Maes, I haven't done anything."

"Maybe not yet but you we're planning to."

"You just don't understand, I killed a lot of people out there."

"It was a war,"

"Easy for you to say, you weren't there,"

"No, I wasn't, and if you didn't want to kill enamies in battle, you shouldn't have been there either. Should have asked for a desk job like I did. Did you think that if you became a State Alchemist you could fix every thing? Bring back anyone who ever died in a controversial war? Invent some utopian world?"

"I don't know,"

"Is a taboo so easy to commit that you only need a little binge of studying to pull it off? Or do you just want a way to die? Cause if that's the case there pleanty of easier means."

"I had it in my mouth Maes, and I couldn't pull the trigger, I was too afraid to end it."

"I hope so,"

"It's just the kind of cowardly human that I am."

"Every sane person is,"

"But still, even my life, destable as it is, will have some use. Maes I've got a plan."

"Let's hear it Roy,"

"It's starting to rain," said Roy putting his hat on even though not a drop had fallen,

"But sir there's no rain," said Riza holding her hand out to the sky,

"This is the rain," Roy let out a tear he'd been holding back.

"It's, it's going to rain,"

"Yes,
