"Someone as fast as me?" Bart asked staring at the screen in shock. On the screen was the picture of a man wearing a red spandex suit with a lightning bolt on the front.
"No, Bart someone faster than you. He's been fighting crime for a while now," Oliver replied. "What worries me is that we've never met him? Not even a sign...and he calls himself the Flash.
"How have we not met someone with such a corny name like that?" Bart snickered.
"I kinda like it," Clark interjected. Bart looked at Ollie pointedly. How could there be someone faster than him? He was pure impulse. Then again, this would mean he wasn't the only one out there with the same burden of being a speedster. He could learn more about his speed. Did he really want another speedster?
"So what do we do?" Bart asked Ollie looking at him as if he should know what to do. Ollie was almost like his older brother, so Bart looked to him for everything. The man had even enrolled Bart in school.
"Well, we have to contact him. Clark?" Ollie called. Clark nodded and took off into the sky. Bart would never be getting used to that. He worked with the one and only Superman.
Ollie chuckled watching Bart's awe-struck expression. "Don't worry kid. It'll seem like normal soon. I remember the first time he flew. Heck I was the only hero to see it, upfront and in person."
"Ollie, what if having another speedster around, isn't…good?" Bart asked trying to put words together. "What if he's not what we expect?"
"Bart, we're going to have to wait and see, but remember I'll always be here to back you up," Ollie confessed. Seeing that Bart's worry hadn't disappeared, Ollie continued.
"Remember when we were about to invite Batman to come join us," Ollie sighed. Bart nodded remembering how awkward and scared everyone was. "Well how did you think I felt knowing that we were getting another hero without superpowers?" Bart looked at him confusion spreading across his features.
"But you two are good friends! Heck, Batman and Clark are best friends…I think. You and Clark are the only ones who know his true identity," Bart blurted out.
"I didn't know him yet. And I felt like the League was replacing me with someone better, smarter, more useful," Ollie sighed. He hadn't told anyone this, and he had been planning on keeping it that way. Jesus, Bart. He expected Bart to scoff and say that he was being stupid, and that he shouldn't think like that. The Justice League needed both Green Arrow and Batman. What he hadn't expected was the following: Bart now had his arms wrapped around Ollie's chest tightly squeezing him. Ollie had been in mid-blink.
"The League wouldn't even be here if it weren't for you Ollie. We need you. I need you. You know all of us, and you know exactly what to say to keep us going. You keep us from crossing the line. The League needs you, without you we would fail!" Bart ranted.
Oliver smiled tenderly. Bart was something else completely. He had no need to worry about replacement because there was no one else out there like Bart.
"Bart, you don't have to worry, no one could ever replace you! Well I mean we're going to have to get twice more food in stock to feed two speedsters, but other than that," Ollie joked as he ruffles Bart's hair.
"That's exactly why I don't want another speedster. It's too much of an inconvenience," Bart mumbled. Oliver laughed. Ollie had a feeling there were many new things coming, and they would all have to get used to it.
PING
There was a new Communication Link Message from Superman.
"Green Arrow? You there?"
"Hearing you loud and clear, Superman", Ollie replied.
"I'm speaking to him right now. He says he's interested in joining and that he's heard of us. He also wants to know about Bart," Superman replied. Bart's eyes widened. That probably wasn't a good sign.
