Jackson and Greta are my original characters, but I don't own CSI.

Inspired by something that happened to me on a hike. I thought it would be cool for Jackson to experience it. Hope you enjoy! Please review!

It was a pretty spring evening, so Morgan and Greg decided to take the kids on a picnic. As they finished up, Greg told Jackson about hiking the nearby trails.

"Can we go, daddy?" Jackson asked.

"Sure," Greg said. "You want to come?" They asked Morgan.

She smiled at her family. "You guys go. I think Greta's about ready for a snooze." She smiled at her baby girl.

Greg and Jackson started down the trail and looked at the flowers and trees that surrounded them. Greg had to smile when his son wanted to name all the bugs.

As they walked, Jackson spotted a pretty blue and black butterfly. "Oh," he whispered.

Greg came up behind Jackson. "Look at that," he said softly.

Jackson smiled as the butterfly flew to him. "Aw," he whispered in awe. "Daddy, look!"

"Yeah," Greg said. He loved the look of wonder on Jackson's face.

Jackson was mesmerized as the butterfly landed on his hand. "Wow," he whispered. He studied the butterfly as it perched itself on Jackson's finger and sunned it's wings. "Daddy, he likes me!"

"Yeah," Greg said softly. He loved simple moments like this, just seeing his son happy.

Jackson watched as the butterfly rested on his finger. "Daddy, look!"

"I see," Greg said as he took his cell phone and took video of his son with the butterfly. "It's pretty."

"Yeah," Jackson whispered.

"Do you know what kind it is?"

"I think it's a black swallowtail. Uncle Gil told me you can tell by the blue spots on it's wings."

"Oh, cool."

Jackson studied the butterfly. "And...I think this one's a girl. Cause Uncle Gil said the girls have more blue than the boys."

"Oh, I see," Greg said with a smile.

Jackson watched as the butterfly fluttered it's wings and flew to a nearby flower. "Oh," Jackson said as the butterfly fluttered it's wings. "Daddy, I think she's getting some food."

"Yeah, she's pretty cool, huh?"

"Yeah," Jackson said. He and Greg watched as the butterfly flew to a nearby tree. "Daddy, that was cool!"

Greg smiled at his happy son. "Yes, it was. And I am impressed that you know so much about butterflies."

Jackson giggled. "Thank you! Butterflies are cool!"

"Yes, they are." Greg and Jackson smiled as the butterfly flew up into the trees.

Jackson grabbed Greg's hand. "Come on! Mama an' Greta have gotta see this!"

Greg smiled as Jackson pulled him to the blanket where Morgan and Greta sat enjoying the sunshine.

Greta smiled and waved to her brother and father. "Dada! Baba!"

"Hey guys!" Morgan said.

"Mama! You and Greta have got to see this!" Jackson pulled Greg to the blanket and Greg took his cell phone. "Guess what? We saw a butterfly!"

"Oh, wow!" Morgan said as Greg showed her the video of their son with the pretty butterfly. "How pretty!"

"That's a black swallowtail," Jackson proudly told them. "You can't really tell, but she's got blue spots on the bottom of her wings."

"How do you know?" Morgan asked her son.

"Cause the girls have more blue than boys," Jackson said as he took a sip of water. "Uncle Gil told me!"

"Oh, I see." Morgan and Greg smiled at their son and how much he really was a junior Grissom.

"Baba?" Greta asked as she reached for the phone. Jackson smiled at his sister. "Greta, you remember when you had a butterfly land on your shoe? Well, this one sat on my finger!"

Morgan moved the cell phone so Jackson could show Greta the video. "See?" Jackson asked his sister.

"Ba?" Greta cooed as she saw the image of her brother on the screen.

Jackson smiled warmly. "Greta, you like butterflies. I think this one liked me."

Greg smiled lovingly at his family. "I think you're right, Jacks."

"Da dada?" Greta asked. Jackson kissed his sister's cheek. "Yeah, butterflies like you too, Greta!"

The End.
