Robin put a hand to his mouth, clenching his eyes tightly shut. He tired desperately to hold back, to stop the flood gates from opening. He couldn't do it. The tactician sobbed loudly into his hand, tears breaking past his closed eyes.
He collapsed into his chair, breathing heavily as he held his face in his hands. Loud gasps and sobs came from him as tears streamed down his face. He tried in vain to get a hold of himself.
Sure, he had killed people. He had destroyed an entire fleet of Valmese warships, ruined families. It was all for the future, for a peaceful future. One where he could make a family, where he could put the sword down and teach others.
He had been questioning Lucina again. The princess had been uncooperative in providing details about the future, but she had let something slip. She hinted that Robin did not have a family. When he pressured her she finally caved, gave him details.
He was to remain single, without wife or child.
He had always dreamed of a family. Of a loving wife and adorable daughter, maybe a son on the way. They would have lived in downtown Ylisstol, he would teach and she would have a job of her own. The kids would be smart and strong and beautiful and everything he could dream of. It would be wonderful. His kids would grow and marry, and he would live to his old age with his wife.
It wasn't going to happen like that.
"Father?" A quiet voice spoke sleepily from his bedroll.
No, it wasn't going to happen like that at all. Something he had done was changing the future, given him something where this little girl could appear.
Robin knelt down and hugged Morgan tightly. "It's okay, dear. Go back to sleep." He whispered.
"Da-dad! You're crying!" She exclaimed. "I-is everything okay? Are you hurt!?"
Robin chuckled. "I'm fine, Morgan. In fact, I'm incredibly happy."
"But..."
Robin hugged her even tighter, cutting off whatever she was about to say. "Morgan. I'm so happy that you're here, that I get to meet you. This has been the happiest day of my life." He said, kissing the top of her head affectionately. "I love you, more than you could possibly know..." He trailed off.
"Aww, I love you too dad!" Morgan spoke happily as she hugged back.
Robin smiled. "You have no idea how much that means to me, Morgan. No idea..."
Yes, Robin was going to change the future. All that was left was to figure out who her mother was...
