A/N Hey guys, this is my first Giver fanfic, and this is just the intro. Please read and review:)
While Jonas was now very wise, and very perceptive, he did not have the ability to read minds, and therefore did not know whether or not he could trust the seeming joyful people on the base of the hill. While part of his consciousness was giving him a warm feeling of hope, and relief, he was afraid that the people might not be friends, bu enemies. He could feel memories surfacing in the back of his mind that he had been given earlier in his training with the Giver, feeling of betrayal. They did not pain him as much as viewing the suffering of was, and poverty, and hunger. But the memory of betrayal and the emotion it brought was closeley related to feelings such as loss, injury, and war. And it lingered just as long. It was a mix if feelings that could not be labeled, and should not have to be felt. But it was. Jonas did not want Gabriel to have to feel the emotions. Did not want his little brother exposed to the reprecussions that may result.
Yet, What choice did he have?
And so Jonas slowed his sled and cautiously climbed out. He could here the icy crunch of the snow beneath him, and held Gabriel tight to his chest, determined to keep him from crying. None of the carolers noticed anything particular about him at first glance. Many of the jubilant singers merely glanced at him and smiled amiably. But in turn, each did a double take, realizing what they had seen. Baby's are not commonly found with young boys dressed in rugged clothes on snowy days where baby should remain inside, where they can cuddle up close to the fires, in their mothers arms. As Jonas opened his mouth, Gabriel began to cry. And Instantly, the singing stopped, and all was silent, except the low hum of the gleeful children playing in the snow in the distance, who were not close enough to see the two young boys who's legend had just began.
