Turnabout Trip
'Miles?' Gregory Edgeworth asked his seven-year-old son.
'Yes, father?' Little Miles looked up from his plate with dinner.
'Would you like to do something fun with me tomorrow?' Gregory asked and saw the little boy's confused face.
'For example the zoo or a museum? Or another place is also possible.' He looked his son in the eyes and smiled.
'Well….,' Miles began. A long pause followed. 'There is one place I would really like to go, father,' Miles said and blushed.
'And what is that kind of place, my boy?' his father asked with curiosity.
'A real courtroom,' he whispered. Gregory laughed.
'Why that so, Miles?' father asked and saw that Miles avoided eye contact.
'I-I want to be a defense attorney, just like you,' he whispered back.
'Just like me?' Gregory laughed again of pride. 'You seem to really want this and I see no reason for not taking you there.' Miles started smiling and his eyes were sparkling. 'One thing, Miles. Why do you want to be a defense attorney, just like me?'
Little Mr. Edgeworth didn't had to think long about that. 'To defend innocent people and to find the truth!'
Gregory smiled. These were the same reasons why he wanted to be an attorney.
The next day, Miles woke up very early because today he would go to a courtroom! With his little feet, he walked to his father's bedroom on his tiptoes. With his head peeking into the room, he saw that his father was still asleep. Little Miles walked to the edge of father's bed. Carefully, he began to shake his father's shoulder a bit to wake him up.
'Today you promised me to go to the courtroom, remember father? Please wake up.'
A loud groan was heard and Gregory opened his sleepy eyes. There was his son, right next to his bed.
'Please hurry up, father!' Miles rushed to his own room to change his clothes and to get ready.
My dear boy is just too excited about this, Gregory murmured and smiled.
After ten times asking how many minutes left until they would get to the courthouse, they arrived. Miles opened the door and jumped off the backseat.
'Miles, wait a moment. Would you mind coming here, please?'
Miles walked towards him. Gregory put his hands on his son's shoulders and crouched down so he was the same height as Miles.
'Listen Miles…, the courtroom is a serious business and you know that. Would you mind to be a little less excited and will you stay with me during seeing the courtroom?' Miles did understand and nodded.
'Sorry, father. I just wanted to go here for a really long time.' Miles' eyes looked at the ground in shame.
Gregory laughed and stroked his son's hair. His son was just like him when he was a little boy; fond of becoming a defense attorney. He felt exactly the same way years ago.
'I can totally imagine your eagerness.' Miles looked up and a soft smile appeared on his face when his father made that statement.
'Well, shall we go in then?' Gregory proposed and hold out his hand.
'I'd love to, father!' answered the boy and hand-in-hand they entered the courthouse.
