Our scars and us

Blind. That's how her parents described her. Nothing about how she looked, her hair, height. Nothing, just that she was blind. Toph wasn't one to be judged by her blindness. To her, it was nothing more than a scar- something that can be forgotten, but is still always there.

Her scar could be ignored- something that had been too set in that it didn't need to be fussed over anymore. Her parents just didn't get that for the longest time. When she was with the avatar group, she felt that her sight- or lack there of- was just a scar.

They had quickly accepted her, and had picked up quickly that she didn't need help. They didn't protect her, or put her in a bell jar as her parents had. She could feel free, to roam around the lands without any inhabitations.

All she knew was that her scar HAD happened, and nothing was going to reverse it. And she was just fine with that.

. …………….

Every time he looked into the mirror, the angry red of his burn used to fill his sight. It was the sole thing that provided his outcast status. It had been a ticket to hell- his own living hell.

Mai had been supportive, had loved him through it all. But she had been too cowardly to speak out against his punishment, as all the Royals were at the time. He didn't blame her- not one bit.

But when she touched his face, she avoided his scared, the whole upper face, favoring his jaw when she planted kisses. Zuko had tried to convince himself that she wasn't ashamed of him, but that she didn't want him to feel bad. But each time he noticed, and secretly pushed it to the back of his mind, he lost himself a little each time.

The Fire nation after Ozai was a bit more accepting of him, after the source of their silence, and fear had disappeared. He had never realized that his nation was so full of cowards.

He didn't pretend to not notice the glances he got each time when a new member of their court had joined. It was one thing that would always remind him of his past, and push him towards his future.

. …………….

While they didn't know each other well, they knew they could understand the other. From the previous talks they had participated in with each other, they could feel the instant understanding.

She knew he would not pity her, or protect her from everything she loved. He knew she wouldn't tiptoe around his issues.

Maybe, in the future, they could have more than this stationary relationship. But now, young and inexperienced, they could stay this way for seemingly forever.

But when the time came, the clock would tick again, and they, and their scars, would move through time once again.

Hello, everyone!!! This is my first Avatar fic! I hope to write more, buuuuuut who knows. Oh! If you want to review, please do without flaming, or being A** about grammar, spelling, and the like. Just comment if it's HELPFUL. I must stress that yes, I am a Toko fan… and yes I do know it's crack-ish. So leave me alone about that issue! *phew! I hope you enjoyed it, besides my little rant, there! Byes!
