Heero was standing on a cliff, looking down at city. The cold wind blew his hair around and chilled him to the bones. But it wasn't the wind that was coldest; his mind had frozen. The mundane thoughts chased away by much darker ones.
He had been standing in this place for hours. He didn't care.
"Heero?" said a soft voice behind him gently.
He turned his head only a little, to acknowledge Duo behind him.
"Are you all right?"
A little sound escaped him and Duo came to stand beside him.
"Heero?" he glanced over at the other boy's face. "Heero? Are you crying?" Duo swept back his plait and looked at the other boy in a concerned manner.
"No. Why?" Heero answered, looking away.
"'Cause there's tears on you face. It's all right. You can cry."
Heero looked at the other boy in astonishment.
Duo smiled: "We've been through alot. We're all overwhelmed by everything. It's all right to let it go." The American glanced down. "Just don't let this go."
Heero looked back at the city below and the colourful sunset above.
"Hey", Duo nudged him a little with his shoulder, "Don't be such a moper. I know it's difficult not to think about all the broken families, some of them caused by us, but you can't live with yourself if you can't forgive yourself."
Heero began to shudder. Quickly Duo turned to him and wrapped his arms around the other boy. "I can't forgive me. I can't", Heero stuttered.
"Shh. Yes, you can. You must", Duo answered, petting his hair.
Heero sobbed into Duo's shoulder. After a while Duo whispered: "Let's go. I won't leave you. No matter what you do."
Heero let the other boy walk him down the slope of the cliff into the house they were sharing with the others.
