Disclaimer: Les Misérables is property of Victor Hugo. Of course I don't own it, silly!
I'm not sure how everyone feels about Valjean/Fantine, but I absolutely adore this pairing. Feedback is appreciated very much. Thank you for reading.
Paradise Found
He sat on a long plain of grass, grass that seemed endless. The breeze was cool. The temperature was just right. After such a long, difficult life, Jean Valjean was finally at peace. Everything, absolutely everything, was perfect beyond imagination. A smile graced his face as he thought of his last living memory. It was the face of Cosette drenched with tears, the last thing his eyes would ever grace in the living world.
"Jean," called a soft voice.
Valjean glanced behind. Fantine stepped towards him, her blond hair swishing in the warm breeze. Her blue eyes were wide. Her smile was beyond perfect. He had almost forgotten how incomprehensibly beautiful she was. Even in her last living days, she had face of an angel. Nothing, not even poverty and misery, could steal that from her.
"I've been waiting," she said, holding out her hand.
Valjean took her hand and rose from the grass. Both stared into each other's eyes and embraced for the first time in a long time. It had been too long for both of them. They parted, but Valjean seized her hand once more. The two walked off in the distance never to be parted again.
