Warning! Spoilers: Episode 5.7 "Requiem" I suggest you've seen the episode or I might end up spoiling something for you. (can't imagine what it'd be…)
Adrenaline pumping as they ran away from gunfire, Maddie tried to run past the perfect cover. "No, get in," Gibbs grabbed her arm and shoved her into the open driver door, diving in after her and wedging the shifter into neutral. The dock's natural slope and gravity took over from there. They both ducked down and clung to each other to make sure the other stayed out of the line of fire.
Gibbs was too slow to hit the brake, more worried about the girl beside him staying out of the fire line, and the car dove backwards into the bay.
Maddie instantly panicked, grabbing tighter onto Gibbs' arm as the water started pouring in through the damaged windshield. Gibbs' focus was a little better, but not by much. He knew they had to get out and only had around a minute once the cabin filled before they both drowned.
A figure appeared in the darker water, Gibbs automatically reached for a gun that wasn't there until he recognized the figure as DiNozzo. Tony frantically tore at the windshield, trying to get to them while they shoved and punched at it to get it to break loose. DiNozzo's hand almost reached out for him once it was clear but Gibbs shoved the girl into his arms, knowing that it no doubt would be the last order he ever gave.
DiNozzo gave him one last look. "Hold on Boss," was what it said before shooting toward the surface. He smiled at that, he didn't need to. She was safe, mission accomplished. Now he was ready to rest. His vision blurred past the distortion of the water as oxygen deprivation set in. His eyes closed and suddenly there was no more water, or need for air…
"God Boss, you gained a few pound!" Tony joked as he hauled Gibbs' lifeless body out of the water. "Come on Boss, breathe!" DiNozzo started chest compressions, already too out of breath to perform mouth to mouth. "Come on Boss, don't make me kiss you," Gibbs remained lifeless, the only movements caused by Tony pumping at his chest. Regardless, he couldn't get him to breathe. Tony sat back on his heels, trying to catch his breath and make sure the girl was going okay.
"Is he…" was all she'd gotten out since they made it to the surface.
"Yeah…" Gibbs suddenly took a gasping breath and looked toward the girl. "Welcome back to the land of the living Boss."
Gibbs was struck by the low hum as DiNozzo smiled sadly down at him, "I'm…?"
"Gonna be here awhile."
