"A joke only lasts for a moment; if it leaves a misunderstanding, it becomes a lie."

Satoshi, with his cheerful disposition and intricate memory, arrived at the Earth Science room first. The windows were open, a soft breeze coming through. The four desks were grouped together, as always, and their cactus sat on the ledge. Its thorns stood out like battle spikes, prepared to prick whoever touched it.
He rested his bag atop one of the desks and walked over to the window, smiling that hapless smile like always. He was a hapless person, wasn't he? Databases weren't exactly needed. And since he wasn't a computer, the amounts of useless trivia that took up space in his brain felt even heavier.
Nonetheless, he continued to smile a hapless smile.
Sometimes he felt like he was suckering everyone else into believing he was such a person. Happy-go-lucky, without a care in the world seemed to fit that description. He imagined that everyone believed him to be such a strange person, who lived for learning about things no one cared for.
He leaned over and rested his chin atop his folded arms. Perhaps he had been playing such a role for too long now.
"Fukube-san!"
He turned, and smiled. "Ah, Chitanda-san. Welcome, welcome."
…or maybe not long enough.
A/N: This is my first Hyouka one-shot…or vignette, I suppose. I intend on doing one for each character.
Tell me how I did. Was his character off? Thank you for clicking this.
