Prologue.
But I was different, I was special. When I first faced Falkner in Violet City he recognized my potential, the potential to overcome things that even Ash was unable to. Even then I was just another hopeful trainer, full of ambition, but now I have come to realize that being a great trainer isn't just about having strong Pokemon.
You must have courage. You must have love. You must have skill, faith, endurance. You must have many things, and no one was able to have all of them. Only two, myself, and Ash, rose to the challenge. The following are the chronicles of my life, my journeys, and my rise to fame.
"Hello? Prof. Elm?" I called out as I walked through the door to his lab on an unusually bitter winter day in Johto. No lights had been turned on in the front room; I could only see a small stream of sun from a window in an adjoining room. I took my coat, and calmly rested it against a chair, then proceeded to look into what happened to be Prof. Elm's study.
There sat a man, hastily scribbling something on a paper. "Sir?" I asked, nervously.
He looked up at me, smiled, and said,"Yes?"
"Um, well, I came to receive my first Pokemon. I turned ten a few days ago, and decided to become a Pokemon trainer."
"Sorry, but you're going to have to wait. Professor Elm's at the Cherrygrove City Pokemon Center, it appears that they've discovered a new specie of Pokemon. I'm not allowed to give out certifications, and most definitely, I can not give out Pokemon. You may want to catch up with him there, but with the temperature outside, you should wait."
Slightly disheartened, I sat down on a couch in another room, and pulled a book of the shelf titled "Ash." I had heard of Ash; he was my hero growing up. It was incredible to find out that a whole book was written about him, containing the journeys that he made, and the accomplishments he acheived.
The book contained many examples of Ash's mastery with his Pokemon. Even when he was at a type disadvantage, he could win the match. He was able to do this because he knew that Pokemon have hearts, not just bodies, and types. Pictures were scattered throughout the book, many were of his matches in the Pokemon League.
Ash was also a great Pokemon trainer, because he had gone through so much. Even after losing Butterfree, Lapras, Primeape, and Pidgeot, he was still a great trainer. He exceled in every possible way. And he, just like I, was once just an enthusiastic ten year old....
