Sleepless in Suna
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, however, this is my storyline.
Temari lay on her back, staring at the dark ceiling. She couldn't sleep. The kunoichi had stopped counting at 2,863 sheep, it just wasn't working. Temari rolled over and sat up, she slid her delicate feet into her satin slippers, stood up and shrugged on the matching robe.
Temari crept into the hall, and down the stairs, she could hear Kankuro snoring, and who knew where Gaara was. Temari tip-toed into the living room, to her surprise there was a light on in the kitchen. It must be Gaara... she thought.
Temari walked into the kitchen, her youngest brother was sitting at the bar, staring absently at a cup of coffee. "Gaara, do you mind if I join you?"
"Hmmm."
The girl decided to take this response as a 'yes', she poured herself some a mug of coffee, and took a seat across from her brother.
The two sat quietly for a moment.
"Temari."
"Yes, Gaara?"
"Why are you down here? You should be in bed."
"I-I," Temari hesitated, so she couldn't sleep for a night, Gaara could never sleep.
"Yes?"
"I couldn't sleep, that's all."
"Hmmm."
The siblings slipped into silence again.
"How can you stand it Gaara?" Temari burst out, before clamping a hand over her mouth.
Gaara glared at his sister, but when he saw the fear in her eyes, his expression softened. "Stand what?"
"Never being able to sleep, what do you do when Kankuro and I are resting?" she asked cautiously
"Temari, come with me." Gaara asked as he led his sister up the stairs.
He stopped in front of his room "Temari, you can't tell Kankuro about this. Do you promise?"
"I promise Gaara." Temari replied, she had never been in Gaara's room before, no one had.
Gaara opened the door and the pair entered the room. Temari's mouth dropped open in shock.
Lining all of the walls were innumerable paintings and drawings. The art depicted almost every shinobi Gaara had ever met. Baki, Neji, Hinata, Shikamaru, Kiba, Shino, Sakura, Kakashi, Gai, Lee, Ino, Chouji, Tenten, Sasuke, and Naruto were all there, drawn and colored gorgeously on what appeared to Temari (who knew nothing about art) to be on very expensive paper.
"Gaara, these are amazing..." Temari gasped.
"There okay I guess, but I want to show you my favorite," Gaara said as he lead his sister toward the window, there, carefully placed near the window, hung the most magnificent painting Temari had ever seen.
Hanging there, in a neat 2X2 frame was a portrait. Temari, Kankuro, and Gaara, all smiling and looking genuinely happy beamed out of the picture. Temari and Kankuro were to the left and right of Gaara, each had an arm slung around his shoulders , and Gaara's hands were slipped around his sibling's waists.
"It's beautiful..." Temari began before tears began to roll down her cheeks.
"Hey, don't cry." Gaara said soothingly.
"It's just that, that's what I've always wanted for us. You, me and Kankuro, and I try so hard, but it's never good enough, and we all just end up miserable. Kankuro hides his suffering, and you don't talk to us, and that just makes me all the more upset!" The kunoichi sank down, with her back against the wall, and cried into her knees.
"Temari, please stop crying, you're a great sister, and we love you. I love you." Gaara admitted.
Temari looked up, "You do?"
"Yes, now, let's go finish our coffee." He held out a hand to help his sister up.
Temari grabbed his hand and the two left the room, not before Temari stole a last glance at the painting.
The siblings made their way back to the kitchen, it was almost one o'clock in the morning, Temari yawned. "Gaara, I'm tired, I think I'll go to bed."
"Okay Temari, goodnight."
"Goodnight Gaara."
The End
So, what's the verdict? Please review, but it's my first story, so don't be too harsh.
