After recently visiting the cinema, this little bit of silliness popped into my head. I would like to dedicate this to my best friend, who absolutely hates it when I talk during movies, which I do quite often.
Just a little unbeta'd humor with the boys. Enjoy.
In the Car
"This is stupid."
"Casey…"
"No. It bears repeating. This is stupid and it's a waste of money and time that we will never get back."
Michael sighed. "Then think of it as a team-building exercise."
"In what? Endurance?" The sarcasm in Casey's voice was biting.
The team leader sent him a glare in the rear-view mirror.
"Oh, come on. It'll be fun," said Rick cheerfully from the front.
"I also can't believe you're taking suggestions from the rookie."
"I agree with Martinez," Billy piped up from Casey's side. "This is an opportunity; a chance for us to grow closer as a team. This shall be a positive experience, I'm sure of it."
Casey just scowled back at him. "It's a movie."
"Ah, but a movie with beautiful women and gratuitous violence," Billy enthused, nudging him in the arm. "How can you say no to that?"
In the Theater
"There's no way that could happen."
"Oh, aye. He'd be down in the blink of an eye if this were real."
"Guys, could you cut that out? People are starting to get annoyed." Rick turned nervous eyes to the group sitting behind them in the dark theater that looked suspiciously like a biker gang.
Casey ignored him. "This is what I meant. None of these fights could be possible in reality. You don't just get up and pound somebody after getting shot three times."
"You did. That time in Romania," Billy countered.
"I'm a special case."
"Truer words were never spoken."
"Hey," hissed a voice behind them. "Could you keep it down? We're trying to watch."
For the next five minutes there was silence from the seats between Michael and Rick.
"I don't understand why any self-respecting person would subject themselves to watching this nonsense."
Michael's hand drifted up to cover his eyes while Rick sank a little lower in his seat.
That's when a piece of popcorn connected with the back of Casey's head.
The operative was around in an instant, eyes searching for the culprit. "Who threw that?"
One of the meaner looking bikers held up his bag of popcorn. "That would be me. Maybe if you hadn't been talking the whole time…"
By now, no one was watching the action on the screen; they were focused on the real-life drama unfolding in the middle of the room.
Casey's eyes narrowed, ignoring Rick and Billy's attempts to pull him back into his seat. "You picked the wrong guy to mess with."
"Oh, really?" The biker guy shot up to his feet. "That sounds like a threat to me."
"Get a dozen more guys and it'll be an even fight."
The three teammates still seated shared a look of resignation.
In the Car
"You just had to start a fight, didn't you?"
"The movie was your stupid idea, Martinez. I didn't even want to be there."
"That's not the point, Casey!" Rick snapped back, holding a bloodied napkin under his nose.
"I think what young Rick is trying to say," offered Billy, who was poking at a large bruise on his arm, "is that you need to learn a wee bit of restraint when it comes to anger management. Just a suggestion, of course," he added at the look on Casey's face.
"Well, considering the damage that could have been done, I think we got off easy this time." Michael looked in the rear-view at Casey, a large purple spot forming over one eye. "But the next time someone throws food at you, could you try not to kill them?"
"Or maybe just not talk in the theater anymore?" Rick muttered into his napkin.
"I make no promises."
There were a few beats of silence, then:
"Now that was a team-building exercise."
My birthday is on Saturday, the 1st. Reviews make awesome birthday presents. ;)
