A Snowy Night - Short

It was late at night, at 11 PM. It was really dark outside, only the faint lights on the street were there. Of course, inside I had the lights on. It was the tenth of December, and it was extremely cold. I had to turn the heating all the way up, 'cause I was literally freezing. I made myself a hot cup of chocolate, and was sipping it silently when I saw that my buddy Tails, who I called over earlier so we could play games together, was by the window, and was staring outside, at my garden. I couldn't blame him; the sight was truly one to behold. The snowflakes were falling like feathers onto my lawn. The trees were covered in snow, and were whiter than I expected them to be. He also had a cup of hot chocolate in his hand. I got up from my armchair, and went over to the window as well.

„Hey, bud. What's up?" I asked him quietly.

The orange-coloured fox turned his head over to look at me.

„Nothing, really. I gotta say, you beat me fair and square that last game." He said, and chuckled. „I have to get better at it. You don't have to go easy on me."

I laughed. „Don't worry, I won't. That won't make you better."

He turned his head back to the window.

„You know, I sometimes get the feeling, what it would be like to be one of those snowflakes?"

I raised an eyebrow. „No idea."

He continued. „You know, falling out of a cloud, and drifting through air as you reach the ground. So fascinating. Yet, we go outside every winter and throw a bunch of snow around at each other. Then, the snow melts and turns into water, which dries up after a while. And this happens every winter.

„That's the life cycle of snow, buddy. It's how this world works. You are born, then die, and are eventually reborn. It's like that for basically everything around us. Now let's quit being so scientific about everything and go have a rematch. I know you can do better." I said.

And so we turned away from the window, and went back onto the sofa to have a rematch.

And the snow kept falling outside. All night.
