A/N: This is a one shot I wrote about Ember McClane. Her past has always intrigued me. I was inspired to write this after watching parts of 'Fanning the Flames'. This is my personal thought of what Ember used to be like as a human.
This story is unique because I wrote it as part of a challenge. The challenge was to simply write a short story or one shot using no dialogue whatsoever. I did it! :) If you like what you read, please leave me a review. Thanks!
The crowd is screaming my name.
I close my eyes and drink it all in.
Five more minutes till the curtain raises and I play my set.
The crowd is going nuts right now.
They can't wait to see their favorite rock star tearing it up on stage.
This is normally the part where I start smiling like crazy and wanting to start the show early.
But not today. Not here. Not in Amity Park.
This place is dismal and bleak. It reminds me of my previous life. My human life.
I shudder just remembering what it was like.
When I was a human, there were no crowds screaming my name, no fans loving me and hanging on my every word, there was just me.
Me and the hundreds of other kids at the orphanage.
Every day, I'd get up, pack my miniscule amount of food that qualified as my lunch and I'd go to school.
Where I mostly daydreamed about getting out of there as fast as I could.
When I turned thirteen, I started smoking and drinking and cutting class.
I started hanging out with the wrong crowd and by fifteen, I'd dropped out of school.
I fell in love with this guy and I thought he loved me too. But as soon as we had sex, he was out of my life.
I wound up pregnant and couldn't afford to keep the baby. And I knew what hell would await it if I gave it up to the orphanage.
So I had an abortion. Three months later found me dead in an abandoned building.
I'd drunk myself to death, trying to forget everything.
As soon as my spirit left my human flesh, I knew what I was.
I was a ghost. Not a human, not an angel but something in between.
My band players surround me on stage.
I smile to myself.
This is where I'm meant to be.
I take a hold of my guitar.
I was no good as a human.
But as a ghost?
I am perfect.
The curtain goes up and the crowd is screaming my name.
I step up to the microphone.
This is my life now.
I glance at my band members and signal for them to start.
The music begins playing and I lose myself in it.
This is what I'm meant to do for the rest of my non-life.
