Chapter 1

                                                                                                                                    July 31st

Dear Diary,

            It's me, Ginny Weasley.  I'm so glad my mummy bought me this new diary!  Now Fred and George can't get into it, since it only opens to a secret spell that only my wand can produce.  I'm so excited!  I will be starting my first year at Hogwart's Witchcraft and Wizardry.  Yes, I am a witch. Hard to believe sometimes, isn't it?  In a little more than a month, I will be heading to Hogwart's with four of my six older brothers, Percy, Fred, George, and Ron.  Percy will be in his fifth year, Fred and George (they are twins) are in their fourth year, and Ron will be in his second year.  Bill and Charlie already graduated from the school.  I can't wait to go, except for that Ron keeps telling me that Potions class is dreadful because Professor Snape.  Professor Snape is head of the Slytherin house.  Ron also said there hasn't been a good wizard in the Slytherin house for years! 

I hope I'm not in Slytherin, and mum assures me I won't be.  I hope I'm in Gryffindor with Ron, Fred, and George.  At least I'd know someone then.  And Harry Potter is in that house, too.  Harry Potter, the boy who lived, is also best friends with Ron (although Ron says he hasn't heard from Harry all summer).  I've only met Harry once, on Platform 9 ¾, but Ron keeps telling me I talk too much about him!  That's rubbish!  I've only talked about him a few times this summer!  I think Harry is kind of cute!  And last year, Harry defeated He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named again!  Ron and Hermione (another friend of Ron and Harry's) helped.  They had to pass a three-headed dog and Ron sacrificed himself in a life-size game of Wizard's Chess!  Wizard's Chess is a very violent game.  The pieces hit and break each other with their weapons.

Did you know that Harry didn't know he was a wizard until his eleventh birthday, which was just last summer!  Harry's parents were killed by You-Know-Who when he was one, and now he lives with his aunt and uncle.  I guess they never told him.  And, Harry is the youngest Quidditch player in a hundred years!  He was the Gryffindor Team's seeker last year!  He was a seeker his FIRST YEAR!  I can't believe that I am going to school with him.  I think, since mummy bought me this new diary, it's safe to say that I like Harry.  Anyway, Ron also told me who to watch out for at Hogwart's.  He said to "stay away from that (bleep) Draco Malfoy."  I don't want to put the bad word in, so I bleeped it out, but you can pretty much guess what it was!  Draco is in Slytherin, and he and Harry are enemies.  They positively despise each other.  I think I'll stay away from his family!  I'm really tired, and it's late, so am going to go to bed.  Goodnight!
