Do You Love Me, Merry?
Pippin gazed into the mirror, oblivious to its power. The water sparkled against the moon's silver beams. He saw himself in the reflections, standing with Merry. The faux Merry took Pippin in his arms, holding Pippin close in an embrace. At the sound of footsteps, the real Pippin pulled away from the mirror. He turned to see Merry standing behind him, with his brow slightly furrowed and staring at Pippin.
"What are you doing? Get back to bed!" Merry yawned, as if he'd only just woken up. Pippin gazed at him.
"Merry, what is this?" He asked, exasperated, and motioned to the mirror with his fingers. Merry followed his hand and mumbled, tiredly,
"It's Galadriel's mirror. It shows the future…or something…now come back to bed." Merry grabbed Pippin's arm and attempted to pull him to his feet. Pippin reluctantly stood up and followed Merry back to 'bed', which was a blanket. They each climbed and snuggled under their blankets and were silent, until Pippin turned to Merry.
"Do you love me, Merry?" Pippin asked. Merry rolled over, and grumbled,
"Go to sleep." Merry yawned and went silent again. Pippin snuggled back under his blanket, but stared at the stars. A few minutes later, Pippin repeated the question.
"Merry, do you love me?"
"I'm trying to sleep." Merry growled. Pippin was silent, and then asked again.
"Do you love me?"
"Yes, of course I do! Now go to sleep!" Merry was getting annoyed by this moment. Pippin was silent for a second, before asking,
"Do you think Frodo loves me?"
"Yes." Merry replied, angrily.
"Sam?"
"Yes. Now go to sleep!"
Pippin frowned in thought.
"What about Aragorn?" Pippin asked. At this, Merry said nothing, but picked up his blanket and moved to the other side of their camp.
"What did I do?" Pippin yelled after him. At this, the other eight voices of the fellowship yelled back at him.
"SHUT UP!" Pippin snuggled down into his blanket and instantly fell asleep, but now the rest of the fellowship couldn't fall asleep again. The next morning, Pippin was his usual bouncy self, and the other eight were groggy and slow moving.
"What's the problem?" Pippin asked happily. They all glared at him. "What?" Merry clipped him around the ear. Pippin stood, confused for a second, and then scrambled to catch up with everyone, who had already set off.
