This is a Story about Jace and Clary. It involves their First meeting but it all happens a little differently here. I don't own any of the Characters or Story line. All rights go to Cassandra Clare. I just write for the enjoyment and purpose of fanfiction. I hope you enjoy.
I woke up that morning anticipating that the events of the day would go on like any other. My best friend Simon would meet me for coffee at Java Jones, I would go to my art class and submit my final project, fast forwarding to tonight when we try and get into the club. That part made me nervous, I mean I wasn't usually the one to do something I wasn't supposed to but after dot came back from an awesome party there the other night, it's all I've been thinking about. I finished getting ready for the day and threw on a loose tee and jeans. I grabbed by art folder and left my haven that I called my room. "Good morning sweet heart, and happy birthday" as my mom turned around with a giant stack of birthday pancakes I tried to hide my embarrassment. "I'm not 10 anymore mom, surprise birthday pancakes aren't really my thing anymore". "Clary I'm your mom I will always make you birthday pancakes no matter how old my baby is." Placing them down on the kitchen table she caught me in a side kiss. The door opened and in walked Luke with a bag of items from the store. "Jocelyn I picked up some things for you, Oh Clary happy birthday". Tossing a nod and wishful words my way I said good morning to Luke before heading toward the door. "Thanks Luke! Mom I'll see you later, I'm going to school and then going to meet Simon". "But your Pancakes!" "Luke your hungry right?" I turned to Luke with a plea in my eyes shooting him a help me out here look. "Yea you know I could always eat, I have the appetite of a wolf". "See mom, Luke's hungry, gotta go, bye!" I closed the door without waiting for a reaction. I let out a long breathe as soon as the door shut, free at last. All a girl wants for her 16th birthday is a little bit of privacy and some space you know. I took the stairs down from our second floor apartment before holding a hand out for a taxi. As one pulled up I opened the door before it could come to a full stop. "2nd and Broadway please." My mind usually wandered when it came to long car rides, or when I had a lot to think about. I sat there in the cab hands folded tracing the same pattern that I had been with my fingers on my wrist that I was used to for a while. I had no idea what it meant the symbol just kinda pops in my head every once in a while. The cab stopped and I paid the driver before stepping out. This was my last class before I graduate. I had been working all year on my final project and it was going to be one that would awe people. I walked to my classroom, and as I opened the door to my last day in rm 214 I saw that my teacher was not alone. I stepped in the door slightly knocking on the door frame. "Um, professor Teagon I can come back if your busy I just wanted to drop off my final project." "Clary non sense please come in I have some people I want you to meet, this is the committee at NYU. They work with members at the MoMA museum for a program they have been running." "Oh it's nice to meet everyone" I felt confused I planned on traveling after school, I was already going to graduate early, and had accomplished a lot, college was not my first choice. "Clary I wanted to show these people your final project they have been seeing samples of your work all year and they would like to see something that you have been working on for a long time. " "Oh yea I understand and I would be honored". I set my portfolio down and pulled out my final project a charcoal piece that had tone, texture, and many different shaded areas. "Its an abstract piece, I call it night in shadow" I watched their faces as they looked over my piece, eyebrows raised and lowered, whispers were exchanged, and I felt a sense of nerve run through me. Why was I concerned, its not like I needed their approval anyway. They turned speaking with my teacher about something before they all were looking at me. "Clarissa" one lady spoke. "We are very interested in your work. We would really like to offer you an opportunity to apply and start with a scholarship at NYU. The program would allow you to go to school on scholarship and you would provide your assistance at the MoMA museum looking at art and running its galleries in exchange". I didn't know what tot say I was astonished. I know that my mother wouldn't be able to afford college and I didn't plan on going but this was definitely a huge opportunity. "I really didn't see this coming, I would like to thank you and ask if I could have the chance to think it over". "Of course" One of the gentlemen spoke, handing me a card he added "Here is the number to our school and my office, call me when you make a decision no matter what you decide." "I will". I shook everyone's hand and with a thank you I left. Today was going over so well I couldn't wait to tell Simon. I walked to the coffee house which was only a couple blocks from the school. We had been going to the spot for so long, I knew the way well. I opened the door to an enthusiastic Simon waving me over to the standing table. "I ordered you a cappuccino and a French press for me." Simon always had a grin on his face, always was excited to see me, and we had known each other ever since we were little. "Simon I have something to tell you" "Yea anything Clary, you know I'm here to listen never to judge". I laughed a little, oh so helpful Simon. "I got offered an opportunity to apply at NYU on a scholarship and work at MoMA, this is a big deal, you know". "Wow clary that is great but what about our travel plan". "I know, I know I just figured I would consider it, I mean life is always so boring in our neck of the woods, this is an opportunity to do something different with my life." "Yea Clary if you think I wasn't being supportive, I am…..I definitely am." "Simon I know what your thinking and its not like that I am just going to think it over you know. Its still us against the world". He smiled and looked down as the waitress delivered our drinks. The waitress was all into him, looking only at him as she placed the glasses on the table. "Anything else I can get for you, anything at all". I was about to suggest, yea your number, but I knew better than to cross the line into Simon's personal life. "No thank you." She walked away slowly just giving a side glance to me with a less caring enjoy. "Simon she was totally checking you out, you should go talk to her ask her when she gets off her shift." " Oh clary, me no, I'm holding out for someone special". Before he could say another word I looked down at my phone. Text from mom: "Hi sweetie, planning a birthday dinner for tonight I think we should have some girl time to talk and catch up 630 ok?" Ugh mom, I moved my fingers on the keyboard replying with an apologetic yet joyful text. "Sorry mom, I made birthday plans with Simon and the band, big gig tonight, I thought I told you. Ill be home around 11:30 we can do a late night snack session if you want". I highly doubt my mom would remember me telling her about my plans, since I kinda lied about it but with Simon and Maureen to back me up she might believe me yet. I placed my phone in my pocket knowing the response that would come, but I couldn't worry about that now. "Simon I wanted to mention that tonight we should hit the club, the one Dot went to last week." "Club Pandemonium, I don't know clary I barely get into a rated r movie without having to show my i.d." "Come on we can do it, after I work on the van the three of us can go." I gave him a hopeful nudge and a smile. "ok well I'll call Maureen and let her know." Yes! This was going to happen. I planned on this being the best birthday ever. I felt my phone vibrate several times before I took it out of my pocket, expecting a million texts from mom I had a missed call and a text from Dot. "Clary stop my the shop in a little while I have your birthday present and I want to give it to you". I typed away. "on my way" I couldn't wait to see her, and would bring Simon along, I kind of didn't have a choice in the matter but couldn't wait to see what the rest of the day had in store.
