She would never tell.
The thunder rolled overhead the Institute, flashes of lightning illuminated the darkness and once again she found herself outside his door as the clock chimed twelve.
Her hand trembled as she reached for the handle to gain entry, the cold metal pierced her skin and she shuddered wrapping the wool blanket further around her shivering petite frame. With a deep breath she slipped into the abyss and let the oak door fall shut beside her.
The room was predominantly in darkness but, she could just distinguish the shadow outlines as she manoeuvred silently towards the bed in the middle. Her nerves shot as deafening thunder sounded above.
"Jace?" She whispered.
She reached out to shake him from his slumber but, he was already stirring at the sound of her frightened voice. He mumbled half asleep slowly turning his head to face her. His angelic golden eyes shone in the darkness as he looked up at her allowing his mind the time to process the night intrusion.
"Storm?" He murmured, a lazy hand brushing blonde hair from his face.
Isabelle nodded, her hands trembling as another flash of lightning crossed the room. Jace stifled a yawn untangling the duvet which covered him and Isabelle slid under with no hesitation. She instantly felt his body warmth as he wrapped one arm around her waist simultaneously allowing the duvet fall to engulf them both. She reclined into his comfort feeling him pull her smaller body against his chest with one arm. She let her eyes finally close. She was safe.
Isabelle knew that when the sun rose and the two Shadowhunters resumed their normal duties, no words would be spoken about her midnight appearance. Jace would continue with his usual sarcastic remarks with that familiar charming smile and she would respond in kind. There would be no teasing on Jace's part for the comfort she desired. He understood. He knew what it was like to have demons. But, she would never tell anyone else that the darkness frightened her.
She would never tell. She was a Shadowhunter.
