Family
'Hugh you can't. PLEASE!' Rachel Pettigrew sobbed uselessly as her husband rummaged through out the kitchen, watching as he angrily threw things into his duffle bag. 'You can't … what about Peter? What about Peter Hugh? You can't just leave him here. Do you have any idea what that would do to the boy? HUGH! Please. For Peter. For Peter Hugh. Please. For Peter-'
'NO!' Roared the man as he spun around and for the first time that night something akin to regret showed through his brown eyes. 'No Rachel, that boy is no son of mine. I refuse to be a father to such a monster. You promised. You promised Rachel. When we got married you promised no son of mine would be one of your type. I refuse to be a father to a monster, to watch as he sends things flying around the room with his goddamned mind! I REFUSE RACHEL! I'm not going to be a father to a bloody monster!'
'Please Hugh, plea-'
'Good-bye Rachel,' and for a moment Hugh Pettigrew hesitated before walking into the night and out of his son's life. 'I wish you luck.'
'Hugh! Please!' Rachel shouted after the man as she threw herself towards the door, tears making her vision blur.
How could he?
'Hugh come back! HUGH!
He said he loved me… he said he'd never leave.
'Please,' her wail harsh and almost unhuman.
Death to us part…
'Mum?' Rachel spun and allowed her knees to give way as her son came running towards her, burying his head in her shoulder. 'He's not coming back tis time is he?'
Rachel watched as tears fell down the seven-year-old's face, his eyes brimming with the ones left unshed.
'Not this time Peter. Not this time.'
