Two people were in the room. One was standing up and the other sitting down at a desk. The room was brightly light so that it almost hurt the eyes. The walls were white and a huge window covered one wall, depicting an image of the city. The person who was sitting down, a woman, was flicking through a report the other had given her.

"Who is she?" the woman said, pointing to a picture of a girl with red hair and a big smile. The woman rather disliked that smile.

"Clara Oswin Oswald. Companion of God, that's what her name means. Companion of the Doctor."

"What do we know about her?"

"Hardly anything. She has lived and died twice, once in the Asylum of the Daleks and again in England."

"Is she human?"

"In appearances, yes, but that's hardly evidence for humanity."

"What is she then?" the woman asked impatiently.

"I don't think even the Doctor himself knows,"

The woman frowned then stared at her assistant. "That is not an excuse." she said. "The Doctor is not God. He is only a Time Lord, a remnant of older times."

"Sorry. What I meant to say is that no one knows, except maybe the girl herself."

"Fetch her then."

"But...we... how do we even know she still exists?"

"She's done it twice already. I'm sure she can manage it again."

"I don't know where to look!"

The woman stared at him in annoyance. How stupid was he?

"Follow the Doctor."

He nodded and hurried to the door. The woman scared him like no one else before. He wished he'd never accepted the job. As if he ever had a choice. No, he wished he'd never landed on this god-forsaken planet.

""And Rakel..?" her voice trailed out to him. "Do try to stay out of the Doctor's way. I'd hate to see anything happen to you." Rakel swallowed and carefully shut the door behind him. His hands were shaking a little bit but he managed to control it by the time he had reached his room. He was watched as always but for once Rakel realized how thankful he was that they couldn't read his mind. Because right now he was considering treason. The wrath of the Doctor or the wrath of his mistress. He couldn't decide which one was worse.

An abrupt scream, cut off at the end, interrupted his thoughts. He walked to the window, knowing what he would see out there. He was right. It was some hapless human who had wandered too close to the entrance of the building. Slowly the life was being drained out of it. Rakel wasn't particularly sympathetic of humans, stupid as they were, but he still winced. He knew it was a prime source of energy but watching the human grow paler and paler, eventually collapsing onto the ground, disturbed him. Rakel almost wished for the good old days, when they just blew up humans and put them out of their misery. This was like torture. But then the creature looked at him and he lost all feelings of pity.

He would go and find Oswin Oswald and bring her back here. Maybe his mistress would be kind and release him. Besides, he had heard that sometimes the Doctor was forgiving. He hoped the rumour was true. In any case, he'd rather die at the hands of the Doctor than return to this place and eventually do something wrong and feel his life drain out of him. Anything was better than the Silence.
