How I Found My Wand
When I got my first Hogwarts letter, I was very excited. My Muggle parents, who didn't know what to do, sent me to a long-lost relative in England. My Great Aunt, once removed, on my dad's side, Willa Dusselborf. When I arrived to Aunt Willa's manor, she took me directly to Diagon Alley. There, we bought my books, robes, and everything else on the list. As we were walking along the road, I tripped and fell. My knee had ripped open on the pavement. My aunt Willa took out a long stick from her bag and pointed it at my knee. She muttered something I couldn't hear. Suddenly, I felt a warm breeze flutter over the broken skin. When I looked down, my knee was back to normal. I stared at my aunt in shock and whispered, "When do I get to do that?"
She answered me, "Once you get to Hogwarts, they'll teach you everything you need to know. But first, we must get you a wand." She smiled at me warmly and held her hand out to me. I grabbed it and pulled myself up.
We apparated in front of Ollivander's Wands. When we walked in, I felt a little intimidated. What if I couldn't find a wand? What if it cost too much and we couldn't buy it? Aunt Willa must have seen my worry, and squeezed my hand, and I was instantly reassured.
Ollivander saw us gazing at the walls lined with boxes. He came over and took my measurements and set off. When he came back, he was holding one of the boxes. He took off the lid and lifted out a beautiful chestnut wand. "11", chestnut with dragon heartstring. Fairly bendy. Why don't you try it out?"
When I picked up the wand, I immediately knew this wasn't it. It was like the wand was fighting me, it didn't want me to use it. I shook my head and placed it back in the lidded box. Ollivander came back again with another box. This time, when I took off the cover, I saw a cherry wood wand. "11.5", cherry with unicorn tail."
As I picked this one up, the same feeling came over me. This wasn't the wand. My heart sank. If I couldn't find a want, I wouldn't be able to go to Hogwarts!
After trying 3 more wands with the same reaction, I was feeling defeated. My shoulders slumped and I started tearing up. Aunt Willa came over to me and wrapped me in a huge bear hug. "Don't worry dear." She whispered, "Ollivander will have something for you. We'll find it yet."
A few minutes later and the wand maker came into the room. He was holding yet another box. I reluctantly took the lid off and wondered if this was it. As I held the dark-wood wand in my hand, I felt a tingle go down from my head to my hand and out of my fingertips into the wand. A spark burst from the tip of the wand. "I think we've got it!" Ollivander shouted. I squealed, very relieved that we had found my wand. "12", black walnut, slightly springy with a phoenix feather core."
"Thank you very much for your time Mr. Ollivander." Aunt Willa exclaimed.
"Yes, thank you." I sputtered slightly, still in shock. I could not believe I had found my wand! I was so excited, red sparks flew out of the end again. I frowned. I'll have to work on controlling that.
