Wherever the noise arouse, its distinctly undeniable whirling, pulsating life-sounds made hearts erratically pound. Minds raced in a thousand different directions within mere seconds.. 'do i run? do i hide?' Some prayed what they knew was coming couldn't be real, but it was.
Some bodies froze in place with fear; the weakest-the most selfish-wanted to run but knew better.
"I'm fat! I'm old! I'm blue! You don't need me!' yet they stayed; be it from fear of retribution surely later to come for their cowardice, or from the realization there was no where in time they wouldn't be found, so they stayed.
The bravest-the most loyal-welcomed the challenge even if it meant certain pain of death. In the end they all joined because their will to right a wrong outweighed their own momentary needs. So they entered willing of their own accord, free will running strong, into the blue box which meant so much more than just a form a travel. She meant hope, she meant the possibility of justice no matter how small in a universe plagued by so, so many wrongs.
She represented doing what was morally right, but mostly they joined because he was after all, The Doctor.
