Humanity is under attack, millions of people lie dead in the streets; their mangled bodies a testimony to the evil descending on us. Facing extinction, the leaders of humanity placed a call for every man and woman willing to fight, to return to Earth. Across the galaxy humanity responded; from old teachers, to young men who would never see another birthday. The call went out, and it was answered.
It was answered by Gerald Hughes, a former elementary teacher; who died protecting the students he loved. He wouldn't live to see his students grow up, but they would never forget him.
It was answered by Thomas Jones, a 22 year old; who went to war to protect the only girl he had ever loved. He never got to give her the ring he bought, but she never doubted his love.
It was answered by Grace Anderson, a mother; who wouldn't sit by and watch as her children are threatened. She never got to see her children again, but she knew they would be proud.
It was answered by people from every walk of life, people who before were as different as night and day, found themselves united under the banner of humanity, fighting for whatever they love. Their sacrifices paved the way for victory over the reapers, and all over the galaxy people of every race mourned them.
They mourned for Gerald Hughes, who put himself between a small battalion or husks and a bus full of students. Who acted as a shield for those unable to defend themselves, who died defending the students that he loved.
They mourned for Thomas Jones, who flew a cargo ship full of explosives into a reaper destroying its shields and enabling the alliance brass to bring it down. Who acted without any thoughts of self preservation, who died not knowing that he was going to be a father.
They mourned for Grace Anderson, who held off an army of husks long enough for her town to be evacuated. Who died as her heart was pierced with shrapnel, still holding the line between the husks and her children.
These three people, as different as they were all had one thing in common. They were heroes and their sacrifice will never be forgotten!
