Unexpected

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the ideas here and my OCs Sakura and Vietnam (Lien).

A/N: This was a sort of spur-of-the-moment idea. This is also in an alternate universe, so human names are used. Hope you enjoy, flames will be used to make s'mores for nice reviewers.

Kiku Honda was returning home after fighing for a year in a war to defend his homeland. He was excited to see his wife Lien after all this time. He walked into the house, smiling.

"Lien-kun?" He called.

"In the living room, Kiku-kun." She called back. Lien sounded nervous.

Is she okay? He wondered, hurrying to her.

Lien sat in her rocking chair. Her royal-blue streaked black hair was slightly messy, and her violet eyes held a look of fatigue. And in her arms slept a tiny baby girl.

"Nani?" Kiku was stunned. Where did the child come from? Was this THEIR child or was Lien babysitting?

"I know you're confused, koibito.* I can explain." She said softly. "It turns out when we last..." She blushed. "...you know, before you went to war, I got pregnant."

He sat on the couch, eyes still wide. "So...so she's ours?"

"Hai. I named her Sakura. Sakura Bao Honda." Lien smiled. "A name for each of our nationalities."

"It's lovely." He mustered a weak smile. The Vietnamese woman stood and sat again beside him, letting him see the girl.

Sakura had hair like her mother's, and as she woke and looked at her father, he could see she had his eyes.

"This is your daddy, Sakura." Lien said softly, leaning closer to her husband. "He was off keeping us safe, so he couldn't be here to welcome you. But he's home now."

The Japanese man smiled and brushed his child's hair out of her eyes. "Konnichiwa, Sakura. I'm glad to meet you. Welcome to the world."

The girl cooed softly, reaching toward her father. Lien giggled quietly, handing her husband the child.

"I can't believe this...I'm half-convinced that I'm still on the battlefield and this is all a dream." He said softly.

"It is a dream...a dream come true." Lien said softly. The two new parents looked down at their daughter, feeling more love and pride than they had in ages.

Okay, this is going to be a drabble series, following Sakura growing up. Leave me some prompts in the reviews! Till next time!
