This is my first fanfic so it's probably a bit weird and full of mistakes...

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or the characters, I'm just telling a story that popped in to my mind and wouldn't go away...

One grey afternoon

Like some write the happenings of a day to a secret book, he told his friends how he had finally passed three genins from the bell test.

" Those three have the courage and heart to trust each other and protect their team." Kakashi told after their mission to the Wave country. " This team brings back old memories. Naruto is like you sensei, loud and hyperactive, but as much prankster lives in him as in you Obito. And Sakura, she is the heart and strength of the team, she is very much like you, Rin-chan. Sasuke-kun… is a lot like my old self." Kakashi said and then fell in to silence as he remembered what kind of a friend he had been when he was young.

One grey afternoon, not long from the day when Kakashi had first spoken about his genins to Obito, Rin and Yondaime, that precise day there was no place in the Hidden Leaf that wasn't wet and soaked from the rainwater pouring from the dark sky.

By the memorial stone stood a lonely man, looking answers to questions that couldn't be answered anymore, asking forgiveness from the three names carved into the stone. He was already late for an important event, every one else were already at the Hokage's building.

Kakashi repeated the day to his comrades, how Orochimaru had finally made his move and how Sandaime had protected the village to his last breath. Gaara had shown his own little monster and Sasuke was quickly falling to Orochimaru, too quickly. Kakashi feared that the avenger's heart couldn't be changed to the way it had been when Sasuke was a little boy, admiring his brother, living not for revenge but for his own happiness.

Then a young woman with flowers came to the stone and interrupted Kakashi's story.

" Kakashi-sempai." The woman greeted and laid the flowers to the stone and kneeled to honour the one the flowers were for.

" Are they for Hayate?" Kakashi asked, but didn't get an answer.

" We should hurry. The Sandaime's funeral has already started." Kakashi said turning away from the stone.

" Why don't you come here earlier so you don't have to make up excuses for being late?" The woman asked as she got up and turned to Kakashi.

" I do, early in the morning." Kakashi said quietly almost as if he was speaking to himself.

" Yes, and in the afternoon and in the evening, when ever you have time, even if you didn't…" Obito's sarcastic voice echoed to Kakashi's ears and the boy appeared sitting on the stone with the goggles around his neck and slightly annoyed smile on his face.

" Come on Obito. After all, he comes to see us. And tell funny stories too…" Yondaime's voice cut through Obito and Kakashi saw his sensei casually leaning against the memorial and smiling his trademark smile.

" Come on Kashi-kun. You are already late… You've spent too much time with baka Obito…" Sighing voice of Rin added as she appeared next to Yondaime.

" Rin-chan, don't be so serious. Kakashi has a good explanation this time." The previous Hokage entangled his only female genin's brownish hair. The girl shot a scary Tsunade-ish glance at her sensei.

Kakashi laughed inside and waited for Hayate's girlfriend to catch up as they started to walk away from the stone.

" Please Kakashi. Can't you move those lazy feet of yours just a little bit faster? It's my funeral after all." Kakashi heard yet another voice. Sandaime's smiling from appeared behind Rin, as Kakashi glanced back to the stone, a glance of happiness and sorrow.
