The human will is a strange thing. Here, stuck on rocks gasping for breath, I realize my body's fight for life.
Knowing I'm going to die, I find myself wishing that robbery had gone to plan and I had run off to live with my boy.
"I can save you."
The whispered words barely register in my foggy mind. This damn TB is kicking my ass. Struggling to open my eyes I see the silhouette of a woman.
"Arthur will you trust me?"
I give the shadowy figure a confused look as I continue to struggle breathing. I feel a soft touch on my forehead, "It's not too late. If I save you, will you protect me?"
Then her image becomes clear all at once. Vibrant red hair on perfect porcelain skin. Crystal clear green eyes attached to a woman that is the very embodiment of spring.
I stare, confused for a moment before I nod. I'd agree to just about anything right now. I just want to be able to breathe.
she smiles gently and opens her arms. She's so warm, she feels like home.
"Save me, Arthur."
im filled with warmth and an emotion I haven't felt in a while... hope.
"Hey, mister! Are you okay?"
