Quiet Minds
By SMYGO4EVA
Serenity blinked her eyes.
Once.
Twice.
Darkness.
It was all around her.
Looking around, she saw nothing but black.
She had always hated it.
The blackness, the encompassing darkness…
When she was a child (and even now still, as a young lady), she couldn't stand the dark.
She was too fragile, they said.
But she didn't care.
There had to be some light around her.
One light would be on the hallway, when she would sleep.
It was enough.
She closed her eyes.
Her eyes were concentrating on the image of a flickering flame.
Pharaoh…
It usually calmed her.
But not today.
She still saw them.
The world was burning, everything was in disarrayed colors and nothing made sense to her.
Her breathing was off-white, ragged and broken. Her heartbeat was round, crimson black, and terrifying.
Her mouth tasted of royal blue like metal and pale gold like fear.
There were people outside her bubble, her shield, she was sure - but none of them would understand, and she was convinced that they would do more harm than help.
Silver threads hung thick in the air, pleasant voices that threatened to disembowel her where she stood.
A desperate cry escaped her.
Please don't leave me alone…
And his voice, his deep, calming voice, the one who she thought long lost finally answers.
Never…
Warm arms embraced her very being, and she no longer felt fragile or broken.
Pharaoh…
