Chapter 1; Nudge's Foot?!
"Max, what are you doing?"
"I'm fighting off erasers, Iggy…" I mumbled.
"You mean Nudge's foot?"
I shot open my eyes and sat up seeing that I was in fact holding Nudge's foot, thinking it was the eraser from my dream. It was 8:00 am… I'm so tired.
We're staying at an amazing beach house in Cannon Beach, Oregon, courtesy of my amazing mom. I had way too much fun at the beach last night. For some reason, the ocean is a lot more beautiful when you set a couple of logs on fire and roast marshmallows in a circle.
Even though it's been two years since every trace of the school vanished, I still have nightmares about Erasers, Flyboys, etc.
Wow… Two years goes by fast. Fang, Iggy, Ella and I are all 17 now. We're also all seniors in high school. Fang and Iggy took up a huge talent for soccer. I don't know how it happened but it did. We just found a soccer ball and then it was like they were pros!
Ella and I are dedicated softball players. I'm pitcher and she's 2nd base. We've gotten scholarships from all over because of it. Yeah, we're just that good.
My beautiful Nudge is now 16 and downright gorgeous. She's a junior on the varsity swim team. I have no idea how she can swim so fast with those wings, but she does it with grace.
Angel. My baby is 9. Can you believe it? 9 years old! They grow up so fast. She has found a love for the piano and soccer along with her brother, Gazzy. Gazzy, my little trooper, is now 11. He still uses his… I refuse to call it a skill. You know what I mean.
"Max? You-hoo! You still with us?"
The sound of Iggys voice pulled from my thoughts.
"Wha-?"
"BREAKFAST!" Mom called.
There were whoops and various cheers as we made our way to the kitchen. It smelled like heaven.
Before I could get to the table and make my plate, two strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
"Morning." Fang whispered in my hair.
I turned around to face him, still holding me as I put my arms around his neck and kissed him. "Morning!"
He let go of my waist and grabbed my hand as we sat at the table to make our plates. I stopped to look around at my flock. Two years ago, this wouldn't have been possible. We would never have been able to sit for a second and have a decent meal.
They look so happy. I just felt like jumping for joy every time I hear them laugh or see them smile.
"Here's your plate, dear." Mom said, handing me my plate. She kissed my forehead.
Oh yeah. I could get used to this.
Chapter 2; Fun for All, All for Fun
After breakfast, my mom proposed that we head down to the mall… Great.
I tried my best not to groan and looked to Fang. He just smirked and kissed my hair.
"C'mon, Max! It will be so much fun! Angel, Dr. M, you and I will go to, like, Aroepostal or something while the boys can… look at boy stuff." Nudge. Still quite the motor mouth.
I sighed in defeat and the girls squealed and headed for the car.
Two years ago, after the fall of Itex, my mom bought a huge van so all of us could fit inside without killing each other. We thought it was too boring, all white. So, we decided to paint it. Now, it's unmistakable. Everywhere we go people recognize it and get all excited. It makes for good entertainment.
We pulled up to the mall in our big van and, as you could probably guess, people were staring, mouths open. You'd think that after knowing about us for two years, people would get used to it.
This is gonna be interesting…
