Military Mater

Lightning and Mater were driving along one if the roads in Radiator Springs.

They were passing Sarge's SUV boot camp, when they heard Sarge's voice yell, "I SAID GET UP THAT HILL! MAYBE THE MANUFACTURER DOESNT WANT YOU UP THERE! IF HE DID, HED OF MERICLED YOUR REAR ENDS UP THERE!"

Lightning shook his hood and said, "Looks like Sarge isn't making it easy for them today".

Mater smiled and said, "I used to be in the military".

Lightning looked over at Mater and said, "What? No way!"

Mater nodded and said, "Yes way. It all started back in 1970".

The camera changes to a view of Mater in high school, graduating in the class of 1970.

Mater continued, "I heard that Uncle Sam was lookin' for tow trucks to serve in the military. Me, being right out of high school, I jumped at the opportunity. I signed right up."

Camera shows Mater talking to a recruiter and signing the contract. Then being shipped out.

"After boot camp, they sent me right to Vietnam", Mater continued.

Then he was shown in combat, dragging a wounded soldier out of a ditch.

"One day, I was out on patrol..." Mater continued.

Change to Mater, with a military paint job and an M-16 bolted to his fender.

"We was driving along through the woods when all of a sudden, Viet-Cong came outta everywhere. We dove for cover and did what we could to fight off the attack".

Flash to Mater firing blindly as jeeps with AK-47s bolted to their fenders moved in on him.

"Before I knew it, there was Cong on all sides!".

"Well, what did ya do?" Lightning asked, on the edge of his tires.

Mater raised a windshield wiper and said, "Well shoot, you oughta know! You was there too!"

Flash back to Nam, Lightning appears beside Mater. He is in a similar paint job to Mater's, except he has a bandana tied around his roof, a cigar in his mouth and an M-60 machine gun bolted to his fender. He suddenly screams at the top of his lungs, "GET SOME!", and opens fire. Viet-Cong try to run, but they are cut down by the machine gun fire.

Flash back to present day.

Lightning rolled his eyes and said, "Mater, none of that happened".

Mater chuckled and said, "oh yeah? Then explain this!" He lifted his bumper to show his military quad plates (the car equivalent of dog tags) that read, 'Mater Tow, PFC, U.S. Army' and Mater's VIN number.
