Forgotten
There was something she knew she had to know, but she couldn't remember what she'd forgotten.
Donna Noble sat down on the couch next to her grandpa, who was watching the telly. The news channel was spouting some sure-to-be nonsense about aliens—on Christmas! Donna was turning her head to ask her grandpa if he'd like some breakfast when she saw it. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a flash of… something. In her mind she could see a devilish, carefree smile. A blink or two later and it was gone.
"Honey? Donna…?" Wilfred was asking.
"Huh?" She glanced around, seeming to have forgotten where she was.
"Why don't you go make breakfast, hm?" Her grandfather looked relieved when she acquiesced, glancing a bit nervously at the telly. Emblazoned in red and green lettering was: THE DOCTOR SAVES CHRISTMAS!
Donna was cooking the eggs when she saw it again. The same thing, yet different somehow. It must have been the same mouth, she was sure of it. However, the mouth was moving this time, trying to speak. Donna shook her head and finished the eggs, serving breakfast to her grandpa and her mother, who was still in bed. Sitting at the kitchen table, Donna tried to eat her eggs, but kept flashing back to that same mouth. Who was it? What were they saying? Why? To her? If not, to whom?
Donna sighed as she felt a headache coming on. She cleared her mind and drank her tea, deciding not to worry about it too much. Whatever it was, she'd forgotten, and if she'd forgotten then it wasn't that important. Though, somehow, she knew it was. She had been seeing this mouth for months now, and kept trying to place it—something about it was so familiar, as if she knew that mouth, truly knew it…!
There was something she knew she had to know, but she couldn't remember what she'd forgotten.
At least, not until the day Donna Noble died.
I'm so sorry.
Sorry it's so short! Inspiration hit me, and I haven't been inspired to write much of anything lately. Thanks for reading! I wouldn't mind a review or two… ;)
