Better With Two

Disclaimer: I do not own Glee, I just believed this is the way it should have ended.

Rachel was walking past the glee room when she heard Kurt hitting the high F. Rachel stood there listening to Kurt singing those notes until she heard him say to himself. I did it; I hit the note I needed too. Rachel clutched her books close to her chest. There was no hope for it Kurt was going to win.

Rachel continued to practice because she was a professional and she tried to feel happy about the fact that Finn was supporting her but she wanted the solo. At the diva off she sat there listening she was shocked one Kurt butchered the high F. Rachel sang her part and hit all the right notes.

After the vote and her getting the solo she pulled Kurt to the side. "I know you can hit the F, why didn't you?" Kurt sighed but Rachel had that look on her face. Kurt quietly explained about how he wanted it but what had happened to his father and while he was clearly capable of handling the negative attention his father was not. Kurt left school and headed home as soon as he revealed the truth to Rachel.

Rachel watched as he walked away, she stood there for a longtime thinking about her conversation with Finn about nobody liking her. Rachel wasn't going to deny that she was selfish and she still wanted the solo; however that didn't mean she couldn't share. Making her decision Rachel headed to Mr. Shue's office.

The group was gathered waiting on Mr. Shue to arrive. Once he had he requested that the first song to be sung through would be Defying Gravity. As Rachel took the stage, Mr. Shue told Kurt to join her. "But Mr. Shue glee voted and I didn't get the part."

Mr. Shue sighed, "Rachel came to visit me yesterday, and she told me she wouldn't do the song without you."

Kurt took a deep breath and positioned himself next to Rachel, "Why?"

"We both know that you deserve to be up here just as much as I do. Besides I think it will be better with two," Rachel replied smiling.

Kurt returned her smile, "Thanks."

Mr. Shue cued Tinkers and the two began to sing and for that moment in time they were defying gravity together. They were both in a place where nothing could touch them or keep them down.
