Castiel looked at Sam quizzically and then down at the camera that had just been shoved into his hands. "I don't understand."
"Just point it and shoot, Cas." Bobby said, leaving his seat in the garage and moving to help Dean and Sam.
"What is the purpose of this?" Castiel said, still looking down at the rather complicated camera.
"It's a camera Cas….just push the button like I showed you." Dean said, reaching for his pocket knife.
"I wasn't referring to the camera. I was referring to the rather spindly conifer you have attached colorful latex orbs to."
Dean rolled his eyes and used the knife to cut the string he was using to hold up the tree.
"It's a Christmas tree Cas…and those are called balloons. They have helium in them to make the tree fly. Some weird scavenger hunt Sam signed up for."
"If you wanted the tree to fly then you could have just asked me to take it to its destination."
Dean laughed and clapped Castiel on the shoulder. "It just something fun to do…to see how many balloons will make it fly. We have no particular destination in mind."
"Based on the approximate weigh of the tree, it will take at least 250 balloons."
"Thanks Mr. Spock. Just get out there where I showed you we were going to release it, point the damn camera at it and push the button when we turn it loose?"
Still looking confused Castiel turned and walked out of the garage as Dean, Sam and Bobby struggled to get the balloons through the door without popping any of them. He pushed the button as instructed and watched on the camera's screen as they released it. He lingered on their faces as they watched the tree go up, marveling at the fact that they were all smiling…something he didn't see often.
Dean turned to look at Castiel, frowned and then pointed up. "Damn it, Cas…the tree. Film the tree not us!"
"My apologies." Castiel quickly laid the camera on the ground and disappeared.
"Where in the hell did he go?" Dean said, running to pick up the camera.
"Dean…camera…now!" Sam said, pointing up.
Dean trained the camera up and gasped when he saw Castiel on the LCD with his wings beating slowly, bringing the tree and balloons back to the ground. He had never seen Castiel's actual wings…just shadows…so his eyes quickly abandoned the LCD screen and looked up to see iridescent blue-black feathers reflecting the colors of the balloons.
"Tell me you got that!" yelled Sam, still staring up in amazement.
"Um…yeah…well maybe part of it but you can't submit that." Dean said, realizing his mouth was hanging open.
"I know, but damn Dean. What if we could? That would get extras points for sure!"
Castiel landed and handed the tree to Sam, calmly walking back over to Dean and holding his hand out for the camera.
"Um Cas?"
"Yes, Dean?"
"We've never seen your wings before. Why bring them out now?"
"I thought it would be…fun." Castiel said, with a minuscule quirk of his lip.
