Back to you

After all the craziness they've been through, that moment of peace inside the submarine is welcomed by every one of the Crusaders, especially Polnareff.

He still feels a little lightheaded for the loss of blood, but he's happy anyways.

Avdol is back; he can't believe it but it's true.

And those dicks didn't even tell him anything! One day they'll pay, but for now he'll let it slide; he has better things to think of, for example why he's still hesitating like a fool instead of knocking on the door of Avdol's room.

After what feels like an eternity he finally gathers enough courage to knock; at first he's sure nobody's going to reply – he almost hopes it'll go like this – but soon Avdol's voice comes clear from inside.

- Come in -.

Polnareff courses his trembling fingers as he opens the door.

Avdol is sitting on his bed; it looks like he was reading and he still has a book in his hands, but his eyes are on Polnareff.

- Hello, Polnareff -, he greets, with a warm smile on his face.

- H-hi -, Polnareff replied.

That's totally not like him at all, where's the confident guy known as Jean Pierre Polnareff gone?

Avdol seems to understand that there's something wrong, and his expression switches from calm to worried.

- Is there something wrong, Jean? -, he asks, closing the book and laying it on the pillow, and Polnareff sighs.

Might as well get on with it: he closes the door behind him and he takes a seat beside Avdol, then he takes his hands between his.

- I'm sorry -, he says and damn it he's crying again, but he can't help it. He hadn't been enough to keep his sister from danger and he hasn't been enough to prevent Avdol from getting hurt and, even if at least for the latter everything turned out fine anyways, Polnareff still feels guilty, because it was his fault and his alone.

- I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry -, he keeps repeating, but then he feels Avdol's mouth on his and he's so happy, so happy he's back, that for once the universe has decided to grant him something this good and he's grateful for it.

He has never felt something so intense for anybody before him, and judging by how fiercely Avdol is kissing him, almost like he's desperate for such a close contact, his feelings are more than reciprocated.

When they part they still want more, more for all the time they had to spend apart. The distance hasn't been terrible only for Polnareff: Avdol felt it as well, and more than once it had been almost enough to blow his cover up. That's how much he wanted to come back to him.

They kiss again, but this time it's slower, gentler, like they want to savour this moment for the rest of their lives.

Polnareff hands travel across Avdol's strong arms, holding onto his shoulders then, while Avdol's gently cups his cheeks, like he's a treasure that needs be handled with the utmost care.

Unfortunately they still have to part to catch their breaths. Polnareff doesn't look at anything else than Avdol, why should he? He smiles, and then he hears him saying, and his voice sounds so sweet:

- It's always been you -.

Author's notes: I love this ship so fucking much. The prompts was "it's always been you".
