Taken
Edward's footsteps echoed over the cobblestones as the sky turned into a rusty orange and his shadow lengthened.
Can I really believe what Envy said? That those people are only made of energy, without a body or a soul?
Edward lifted up his automail arm and tapped himself sharply on the side of his head. Pull yourself together! Think about the future! Not the past!
At that time, other alchemists were unable to use their alchemy, like Al and I.
Edward stopped, eyes fixed on the ground ahead of him.
But that midget and Scar could. What does this mean?
As Edward lifted his head, a large group of white pigeons shot overhead, soaring into the distance. He watched them with a ghost of a smile on his face, excited at the thought of another lead, another possibility for saving his brother.
Edward lifted his foot to take another step, and hesitated. Fumbling, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a battered, bloodstained gun, holding it warily.
Oh yeah, I have to return this to the Lieutenant.
All of a sudden, there was a brilliant flash of golden light. Edward watched, horrified, as the light crept up his body, surrounding and holding him in place.
A homunculus attack?!
Edward's breath came in gasps as he brought up his arms defensively, eyes scanning the streets ahead of him. There was no one there. That was when Edward caught sight of his arm. No, that was when he caught sight of a lamp post through his now transparent, now intangible, now fading arm.
"Oh god". Edward gasped. "I'm vanishing". His eyes, widening as images of Winry and Al flashed across his vision, "I'M VANISHING!"
As his body gave a lurch and his feet left the ground, Edward used the last of his strength to yell. "ALPHONSE! I'M COMING BACK, I-I PROMISE!"
Then the street was empty once more. Empty, save the clatter of a dirty, bloodstained gun landing on the cold, unforgiving cobblestones.
