It was the eve of Sonny's Birthday and Dante knew he had the perfect gift for his father.
"Boss, Dante is here to see you…"
"Max, none of my children need to be stopped at the door… let him in."
"Hey sonn…. Dad." Dante was carrying a white box with big bow on it. "Sorry about the frilly wrapping, Lulu did it…"
"What's this?" Sonny was touched that his oldest son would even consider his birthday but after everything they had been through in the past month or so it didn't surprise him.
"It's just something that lulu helped me put together, well she got the idea from mom cuz she has one kind of just like it… its basically my life…".
As Sonny opened the box he realized just how much his son was beginning to care about him and truly see him as his father. It was a blue scrap book with the name Dante Angelo on the spine and a picture of a very pregnant Olivia in Benson Hurst. "Wow son….I don't know what to say this is touching…"
"Well I knew your birthday was tomorrow and I just wanted you to see you know… the parts of my life that you missed…"
Sonny breathed deeply, "Oh I should have listened to your mother and Kate when they begged me to quit…"
"Well if you had, would you have Michael Kristina and Morgan?"
"Probably not, but it would have spared them a lot of heart ache, and you…"
"You know that what happened in the past is behind us right.."
"it shouldn't be, I shot you, I almost killed you, if your mother hadn't burst through those doors… I would have taken that second shot… I'm so sorry…" he started to cry uncontrollably, placing the Scrap book on his desk.
" dad I forgive you, please don't do this to yourself… I know now that you do love me, and… I love you to, you're my father and that's all that matters now."
"and when I saw that gun pointed at you… the thought of you being out of my life scared me so much…"
"I know, that's why I wanted you have this…"
"will you sit with me sometime and tell me about the pictures…"
"How does right now sound?"
"are you sure?"
"Yeah I've got an hour before dinner is ready…"
They sat on the couch and Sonny couldn't help but laugh and smile as he looked at each page of Dante's life. He saw Dante's first steps, first dance, prom and graduation. All his goofy embarrassing moments too.. his highschool graduation and his graduation from the Police Academy. Feeling pride in his son more and more with every passing minute.
