Author's note: Okay, so this is my first official fanfiction that I have put up. I love comments and supportive criticism. Please comment and review.
Stardate 51469.8 (just before season 6, ep. 13 DS9)
All was quiet on Voyager. The warp core seemed to be humming contently as the ship slowly made its way back to Earth. The crew was beginning to stir to life as the first morning shift was about to begin. A calm and rested captain Janeway entered the bridge.
"Anything of interest happen while I was asleep?" asked the captain.
"Not unless you think routine diagnostics are interesting, Captain" smiled Ensign Kim, the operations officer.
"Not in the slightest, Harry."
Suddenly the ship stopped. Janeway looked at Lt. Paris, her helmsman, questioningly.
"Tom?"
"It wasn't me, Captain. I think the warp drive is offline."
"B'Elanna, report."
Down in Engineering a frustrated B'Elanna was rousing her engineering crew.
"Get some diagnostics running; I want to know what happened. I'm sorry, Captain. I have no idea why the warp core stopped functioning or how to fix it. It seems to be in perfect order, but I can't seem to get it to reengage."
Back on the bridge, the captain sighed.
"B'Elanna, I wan-" Suddenly the ship jumped back into warp. "B'Elanna, what happened?"
"I have no idea."
Meanwhile in the mess hall, Neelix was cleaning up after the morning rush. A sudden clatter caused him to turn from the kitchen. Among the tables a small wormhole opened, launching two strangers straight into one of Neelix's tables.
One was a young Starfleet officer covered in plasma burns; the other a angry Jem'hadar soldier. The soldier grabbed the officer by her messy, long hair and pulled her to her feet.
"Where is your captain?" he snarled.
"I hope you rot in whatever afterlife you believe in," She spat back. The soldier pulled harder and she cried out in pain.
"There are ways of making you talk, Human," he replied as he pulled out large, curved knife.
Neelix had seen enough. The Talaxian grabbed his frying pan and slammed it onto the soldier's head.
"Leave her alone, you great bully!"
The Jem'hadar dropped his victim and turned towards Neelix; slowly pulling out his weapon.
"Prepare to die, little man."
Suddenly all of Neelix's kitchen knives began to float in midair. He turned to see the young woman upholding her hand. With a flick of her wrist his knives launched towards the Jem'hadar soldier, mortally wounding him. With his dying breath he shot her in the side, causing her to fade into unconsciousness.
"Neelix to the transporter room, I need an emergency transport to sickbay."
