"Hey… You're not wearing your wedding ring." Glitch commented one winter afternoon as they lay in bed together, his back pressed against Cain's chest. He noticed the absence of the simple gold band while playing absentmindedly with the hand resting on his chest. "Did you lose it?"
Cain shook his head, and Glitch felt more than saw the movement. "Nope, took it off."
Glitch seemed rather taken aback by that answer. In all the time he'd known Wyatt Cain, the man had never once been seen without the ring that tied him to his Adora. It had become an ever-present fixture, until today, apparently. "But… why?" He inquired, rolling onto his back to look up at the other man.
"Because, it was time." Cain replied, staring down at the man who'd thawed his frozen heart. "I will always love Adora, but she isn't here anymore, Glitch. You are, and I think she'd want me to be happy." He pulled a velvet pouch from his pocket. "And, I also think, if anyone is going to be wearing a ring around here, it should be you wearing mine." He produced two identical rings from the bag. "And me wearing yours."
In something close to a state of total shock, Glitch managed, "Oh, my… I… Are you proposing me what I think you're proposing?"
Cain nodded. "Yes, Glitch. That's exactly what I'm proposing." He waited for the headcase's reply.
"Of course!" Glitch flung his arms around his lover with such force that he very nearly sent them rolling off the bed. Cain hugged him back with equal enthusiasm.
When they parted, the tin man kissed Glitch passionately, blindly searching out the other's left hand to slide one of the rings into place.
Once it was in place they separated once again, and Glitch paused to admire the ring. It was made of white gold, two hands holding a heart with a crown above it. A claddagh ring, as DG had once described, was a popular piece of jewelry on the other side, though such a trinket was not easy to find in the O.Z.
"You went to the other side?"
Cain nodded. "DG went with me. I ever had your ring engraved."
Glitch removed the band long enough to read the words carved into the metal. "My heart is yours." He smiled, as Cain slipped it back on.
"There's a jeweler here that can inscribe the other one, too." Cain told him, handing the ring meant for himself to Glitch.
"I doubt I'll be able to think of something so poetic." The other smiled, though, as he slid the band onto Cain's ring finger.
"You'll think of something, sweetheart." He climbed out of bed, knowing that the Queen, who'd approved the trip to the other side, would want to hear the announcement at dinner.
