Greetings, readers! So, I've had this idea for a while, and I'm only getting around to it now because someone said they might be interested in it, plus I've been eager to write this since I saw The Hidden World, so here it is. Hopefully this gets some reviews, follows, and favorites, although I know I can't guarantee anything. Updates should occur weekly, sometimes twice weekly, but I'm pretty lazy, so it's more likely to be completely random. And... yep, that's it.
I don't own Pokemon or How To Train Your Dragon.
And, without further ado-
Ruffnut: Yeah, no more ados!
... I do this a lot. Wildfire, sweetheart, kill the blonde Zippleback rider.
Ending my previous statement, I present to you: How to Train Your Garchomp.
Tuffnut: Hey, is that your Nightmare trying to kill my sister?
Yep. Popcorn?
Tuffnut: YEAH!
...
A thunderous pounding rang out at his door. "HICCUP! WAKE UP ALREADY!"
Groaning, the auburn haired boy on the bed opened his eyes. He could practically sense his father preparing to bang on the door again. "HICC-"
"I'm awake, dad, I'm awake!".
There was silence for a moment, then a sheepish, "Ah, right. Sorry.".
Hiccup carefully stood up, already walking towards his closet. "What's so important you had to wake me up this early again?"
Stoick laughed. "Good one, son! Like you'd actually forget you're getting your first Pokemon today!"
Hiccup stood perfectly still for a moment. Then his gaze travelled slowly around the room.
The packed hammerspace backpack.
The book detailing the best ways to care for Dragon-Type Pokemon.
The calendar on his wall, with FIRST POKEMON TODAY written in big letters under today's date.
Stoick was walking back down the stairs when he heard Hiccup scream in complete astonishment. He gave his partner a bewildered look. "I honestly didn't see that coming."
Skullcrusher facepalmed. "Hera, Heracross.".
...
A few moments later, Hiccup had stumbled down the stairs in a green long-sleeved shirt, a brown sleeveless jacket, jeans, and boots. Stoick laughed. "Took you long enough! You've only been waiting for this since you turned four!"
Hiccup groaned. "Okay, I get it. Can I please just have my Pokemon now?"
The larger male chuckled again and pulled a Poke Ball from his pocket. "I've got him right here. Dragon-Type, like you wanted, and at a low level like the law says it has to be."
Hiccup grinned and grabbed the sphere, looking it over, before pointing it forwards and pressing the button.
A flash of blue light erupted from the ball, before taking on a different form. Large mouth, blue scales, long fin.
His starter was a Gible.
He couldn't stop himself from grinning again. "Dad, I figured you'd just get a Goomy or something!"
Another boisterous laugh. "Nonsense! Only the best for my son!"
Gible opened his eyes (Hiccup could tell from the notch in his fin that he was, in fact, male.), and immediately spotted Hiccup. "Gib!"
Hiccup immediately rummaged in his bag and pulled out a Poke Puff. "Hey, bud. You hungry?"
Gible was not hungry, but he recognized the male as a human (meaning he was likely under the human's ownership now) and that he was offering the sweet out of concern for him (Yep, he was definitely a trained Pokemon now) and obligingly opened his mouth to accept the offering.
Hiccup started for a moment at the Gible's pink, bare gums. "Huh. Toothless? I though your species had-"
Teeth burst from the small dragon's gums and he snatched up the treat, noisily crunching it down.
"...teeth."
Stoick nodded. "Aye, it's strange. Far as Valka can tell, he's got some kind of mutation that lets 'im retract his teeth."
Hiccup smiled again. Gible looked up curiously. "Hey, bud. You mind if I give you a nickname?"
Gible shrugged, clearly not having any objections.
The boy crouched and held out his hand. "Hi, Toothless. I'm Hiccup."
...
After saying goodbye to his father and Skullcrusher the Heracross, Hiccup had set out, making his way towards the city gates, before mocking laughter stopped him. He sighed and turned around. "Hi, Snotlout."
His cousin, who had bullied him for the last 12 years, along with Astrid Hofferson and Ruffnut and Tuffnut, laughed mockingly. "Well, if it isn't Hiccup the Useless! What are you doing on your way out of the city?"
Astrid and the Thorston Twins followed behind him.
"Well, seeing as I have a Pokemon now, I figured I should probably, you know, go out on a journey."
Astrid rolled her eyes. "Give us a break, Hiccup. No one in their right mind would give you a Pokemon."
Snotlout grinned and flexed his muscles. "Unlike me! I've got the strongest Pokemon around! Go, Hookfang!"
The Poke Ball was out of the bully's hand in a moment, and a Charmander, scowling and snorting a plume of smoke, glared at Hiccup. The other three quickly joined in. "Stormfly, go!" "Barf, go!" "Belch, go!"
A Trapinch and two Deino materialized as well, glaring daggers at Hiccup, who observed them and shrugged. "No Fishlegs?"
Snotlout rolled his eyes. "He went off to Outcast Village the moment he got his Dratini. I think he called it Meatlug or something like that?"
Astrid glared. "Not that you'll get there."
"Really? Toothless, if you would?"
The flap of his backpack opened and the Gible sprang out, glaring at the foursome.
Snotlout's expression was priceless. "No way."
Astrid glared harder. "Please. It certainly isn't stronger than Stormfly."
Hiccup glared. "Really, Astrid? Fine, let's test your theory. I'm challenging you.".
The twins gasped. "He's actually challenging you?!"
Astrid waved dismissively. "C'mon, guys, it's Hiccup the Useless. He can't beat me."
The scrawny teen smirked. "Then maybe Astrid the Egotistical should prove it."
If looks could kill, Astrid would have wiped out the entire Archipelago. "Stormfly, Bite!"
BATTLE: Hiccup (Toothless, Gible, male) VS Astrid (Stormfly, Trapinch, female)
Toothless sprang over the Ground-Type's rushed attack, landing and calmly waiting for Hiccup's command. "Toothless, Dragon Rage!"
The blast of energy erupted from the Gible's mouth and rushed straight for the Trapinch. Astrid simply smirked. It's Hiccup's Pokemon. What harm can it do? "Stormfly, charge into the attack and use Bite again!".
The Trapinch charged into the rush of dragonic flame. A very loud explosion promptly occurred, and Stormfly was blasted into the air before landing at Astrid's feet, unconscious.
WINNER: Hiccup
Astrid gaped. "What? NO! How could YOU of all people have such a powerful Pokemon?!"
Hiccup sighed. "Astrid, you're using a Level 7 Pokemon against a Gible with a move that does a guaranteed amount of damage that would be enough to knock out said Level 7 Pokemon. And may I remind you, you decided to have your Trapinch charge right into Toothless's attack! What did you expect would happen?"
"No! I can't loose! You cheated!"
Hiccup sighed. "Okay, I no longer have anything resembling a reason to stay here and argue with you. I'm taking my leave."
Snotlout glared. "Oh, no you don't! You're staying here under our thumb! Hookfang, Ember!".
Meanwhile, the Charmander had been chatting with Toothless. "Yes, the walking ego is a pain in the tail. These morons just can't accept that you one fair and square."
Stormfly nodded. "Astrid only has her underestimating you to blame."
Toothless sighed. "You aren't actually gonna obey the walking ego, are you Hookfang?"
"Heck no. I intend to have some fun with him."
Hookfang immediately obeyed the command to use Ember... by backflipping over Snotlout's head (impressive!) and flaming the seat of his pants. There was a moment of nothing happening. Then Snotlout screamed. "Hot! Hot! Hot!"
The twins immediately picked him up and ran for the center of Berk Village, which boasted a large fountain in the shape of its founder, Bork the Bold, and his Smeargle. A faint, "Ahhh! Sweet relief!" was carried on the wind to Hiccup's ears.
Astrid pointed at his chest. "Don't think this is over, Haddock. I don't know how you cheated, but I'll find out, and I'll have my revenge!" And then she prowled off after the rest of her group.
Hiccup sighed and stroked Toothless under his chin. "Nice work, bud. Now, you want to get out of here before they try to attack us again?".
The Gible burbled in agreement, and they walked towards the entrance of town, only for a hiss of, "Hiccup!" to interrupt them.
Both looked over, and saw, to their astonishment, a husky shape hiding in a bush, clutching a shivering Dratini to his chest. "Fishlegs?!"
The rounder boy pulled himself out of the bushes. "I didn't want them to find me and try to battle me before I left, so I hid here with Meatlug. But I don't want to be on my own in case they try to find me."
"You don't want to battle?"
"I'm fine with battling. I just don't want Snotlout to hurt Meatlug."
He held up the Dratini. "She was abused. My mom found her in an alleyway, covered in lacerations. I've been looking after her for a week, and I think she trusts me to protect her."
Hiccup nodded. "Makes sense why you don't want to battle them. All four'd probably be pretty brutal fighters."
"Yeah. Anyway, like I was saying, do you think I could come with you? You know, as a travel buddy?".
Hiccup looked at Toothless. "What do you think, bud?"
Toothless looked Fishlegs over and growled in approval.
Hiccup nodded. "Alright, Legs, you two are with us."
Fishlegs sighed in relief. "Thanks, Hiccup."
"No problem. …hey, you wouldn't happen to know the way to Outcast Village, would you?".
Fishlegs perked up immediately. "Outcast Village! Home of the first Gym Leader trainers in the Archipelago traditionally go through! Home to the Gym Leader nicknamed Alvin the Treacherous for the number of times he failed to pay up when he lost a bet! His signature Pokemon is the powerful Onix, Groundsplitter! He specializes in Ground-Types! Yeah, I know the way there."
Hiccup sighed in relief. "Thank gods. Now I won't have to rely on a Town Map."
"At least I can contribute something."
Hiccup grinned. "I'd still bring you along. Now c'mon. Maybe we can snag an Eevee in Drenchwood Forest!"
And with that, the teens set out with a Gible and a Dratini, smiling as they set out into the world.
...

Hookfang (Charmander, male) Level 7 (Scratch, Leer, Ember) Ability: Ember
Ruffnut
Barf (Deino, male) Level 7 (Tackle, Dragon Rage, Focus Energy) Ability: Hustle
Tuffnut
Belch (Deino, male) Level 7 (Tackle, Dragon Rage, Focus Energy) Ability: Hustle
...
Well, that was fun! To be clear, the teens are like in the first movie where they didn't like Hiccup, combined with the book characters where they think Hiccup was pretty much useless, except for Fishlegs, who's actually friends with Hiccup. I've also added Astrid's 'How DARE you take my advice and become better at Dragon Training! I will DESTROY YOU!' attitude.
Yes, I made Alvin a Gym Leader. Now, onto some reasoning for the Pokemon I've given the teens...
Toothless being a Gible:
-Garchomp has black scales. Night Furies also have black scales
-Garchomp can learn Fire Blast. Night Furies shoot plasma blasts
-Garchomp has an Ability that increases it's evasiveness under the right circumstances. Night Furies are practically invisible under the right circumstances.
-Garchomp is fast. Night Furies are fast.
-Garchomp can Mega Evolve. Toothless has Alpha Mode.
Stormfly being a Trapinch:
-Flygon's body shape kind of reminds me of a Nadder... yeah, I just didn't feel like giving Astrid a Salamence.
Meatlug being a Dratini:
-Dragonite is big, plump, and orange. Gronckles are also big and plump.
Hookfang being a Charmander:
-Fire/Flying Type that looks like a dragon and becomes a dragon when it Mega Evolves.
-Can learn Flare Blitz and Flame Charge.
-In the anime, Ash's Charizard lights his trainer's head on fire. In HTTYD, Hookfang lights Snotlout's butt on fire.
Barf and Belch being a pair of Deino:
-Hydriegon have multiple heads and are said to be incredibly destructive. I think this choice speaks for itself.
