As Long As You Believe
by ChibiSandrock
Not even "March of the High Guard", the theme to Kevin Sorbo's new show, performed by Alex Lifeson, my guitar hero since the age of thirteen, could snap me out of the mood I was in. I sat at my computer, in tears for no reason at all.
Suddenly I heard a low growl from my computer room door. Scrambling to my feet, I spun around to come face to face with a huge white tiger. I immediately recognized him. "White Blaze..." I breathed, dropping to my knees next to him. The next thing I knew, I'd wrapped my arms around his neck, buried my face in his fur, and started sobbing my heart out. Then when I realized what I was doing I backed off. ::Great...:: I thought. ::Here I am crying into the fur of a fictional tiger...::
"Don't be too sure," said a soft voice from the door. My head shot up and I went rather wide-eyed for a minute. ::Ryo Sanada? No way...:: I thought. Apparently Ryo knew what I was thinking because he led White Blaze back over to me and sat down next to me on the floor. "Yep, I'm definitely real, and White Blaze is too. So what's wrong?"
"That's just it," I said softly, scritching the tiger behind the ears. "I don't *know* why I'm so upset." I went completely limp and snuggled up to White Blaze as I tried to think.
Ryo ran a hand through my hair and wiped my tears away with the edge of his red jacket. "You'll tell me when you figure it out, right?" he said. I nodded and stared at the wall. Suddenly without warning, the words began to spill. I told him everything; from when I had been mentally abused by my father when I was little to the horrendous mood swings I was capable of lately. By the time I'd finished, I was crying again and White Blaze was nuzzling my back in the hopes of making me feel better.
Ryo pulled me into a hug and didn't let go until I'd finally stopped crying. "Feel better now?" he asked, as I sat back and wiped my face on a nearby towel. I nodded and he kissed the top of my head. "That's good." Getting to his feet and beckoning White Blaze to him, he continued, "I gotta go. Glad I could help."
"Bye," I said softly as they left. ::Gods, how am I going to tell these people that Ryo Sanada helped me out of my little funk? They're never going to believe me!:: Then my eyes fell on a little piece of paper next to the keyboard.
"As long as you believe I helped you that's all that matters."
I folded the paper up and tucked it into my keepsake drawer. That was definitely a keeper.
