This is my first fic I have published; I often write them but have never had the chance to put them up. This is basically just a one shot about an alternative way Zoe and Max could get together, in this story, the Zax reconciliation which happened last week, never happened.
You know what? She couldn't stand it, she was his wife and she was walking around like a sad teenager. She had fallen in love, deep, deep love, but her future had all broken apart. Of course, she blamed herself, because, in reality, it was her own sadness and fear which caused all this. All she wanted was for her to be in his arms once again, sharing their signature curly wurly on the roof, a coffee in one hand, chocolate in the other, could it ever go back to that?
Zoe was on the roof once again, she still went up there, even if she was alone. She felt calm and peaceful in the refreshing cool of the wind, her hair perfectly blowing on her shoulders, and a steaming coffee in the other, there was only one thing missing, Max.
He retreated to his 'office' more often than usual after the recent events, only really hanging around with Robyn and Lofty, and she hadn't once seen him smile, however, the same could be said about her.
As the wind howled through the metal banister on the roof of the hospital, footsteps could be heard, slowly pacing up the steps. He took several steps next to her and regained his courage to speak, a coffee also in his hand.
"I miss this, you know, I miss spending time with you," Max spoke, so quiet it was almost a whisper.
"And I am so sorry, for all the hurt I have caused you, I might as well have drowned that night, it would have saved conversations like this," tears streamed down her face, gently dropping on the plastic cap of her coffee.
"Don't you ever say stuff like that, because you are a beautiful woman, I will love you no matter what the world throws at us, I will always stick by your side because the first day I met you, I fell in love with you, and you know what? I'm not going to you go that easily. Okay, yes, we have had our problems, and what you did hurt me so bad I questioned my existence, but marriage and love is about sorting things out together, sharing the difficult problems in life. Whatever you do, wherever you go, I will always love you, because you're the incredible Zoe Hanna; gorgeous, talented, intelligent and the woman who finally completed my heart. So I offer you this curly wurly as a sign of happiness, let's put everything behind us and carry on with our lives, together".
Zoe was now in tears but she had that smile on her face, the smile which Max had fallen in love with from day one.
"I love you so much Max," Zoe cried, as she leant into him.
"I love you too, and I won't ever let you go"
